The Hotel Sport is lovely, right on the slopes and ski in / ski out which with 2 small kids is ideal. You just skied down to the main gondola and up you went. Sitting at the base of the mighty Todorka peak in the Pirin Mountains, lies Bansko, Bulgaria's newest resort which is quickly becoming one of the country's most popular ski destinations. Given the rustic mountain charm, fantastic skiing on offer and lively après ski, it comes as no surprise that the resort is continuing to draw in and churn out happy skiers. And in case this wasn't enough, you'll pay a fraction of the price of a similar holiday in France or Switzerland. Don’t let the resort’s popularity pu...
Bansko has in recent years been home to the FIS Alpine World Cup, which can go some way in demonstrating the quality of the snow and the condition in which they are maintained. If it's good enough for the pros, it's certainly good enough for us! Beginners are well looked after here, whether this is your first time skiing or you're a couple of ski sessions left from the reds. New skiers, especially the little ones, can make the most of the Pirin or Ulen ski schools, before venturing out onto the gentle blues, ...
A living and breathing town, Bansko is the liveliest of the Bulgarian resorts so you can bank on vibrant après ski here. Le retro will give you a little piece of France. If you want a taste of the Orient go to the Kempinski Hotel’s sushi bar and Teppanyaki grill; but for an authentic taste of traditional Bulgarian grub, head for one of the many ‘Mehanas’ in the village. A Mehana is a Balkan take on a ‘tavern’, easily spotted with their homely feel, lively violinists, and of course fantastic food, all 3 ...

"A great place to stay in Bansko"

Jennifer

Just back from a week at the MPM sport as a group of 16 - four families. I can't fault the hotel. The location is ideal - at the bottom of the ski road and very near to the gondola. We took minibuses up the mountain from our ski hire shop because gondola queues are so long in the morning, so if you want to do the ski in ski out option, VIP gondola passes that help you jump the queue are supposed to be a good idea. The hotel is on a quiet stretch of road but minutes from bars and restaurants. The hotel itself has a charming lobby/lounge with a roaring fire every night, a bar and plenty of seating. The food was great - both breakfast and dinner - different every day with lots of choice and kids' tastes are well catered for. Always hot and fresh and plentiful. Drinks are very reasonably priced. Room decor is slightly dated, although all bathrooms seem to be very new and everything is very clean. Fold out beds for kids had fairly thin mattresses, so weren't the most comfortable. Staff were helpful. Spa facilities are great - enjoyed the outdoor hot tub, big pool and sauna and steam rooms. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I’d highly recommend the Hotel Sport, it was everything that we could have wanted. It’s right on the slope, a couple of hundred metres to the gondola, the boot room was about a 30 metre walk so you just had to clip on your skis and trundle down to the gondola. It’s also in the actual town so you’re only ever 100-200 metres away from the bars and restaurants. The hotel was great inside, very clean with a nice log fire in the foyer. The pool, sauna and other facilities were all great. We had half board and they did buffet food with salads, cheeses and always plenty of meat. Our room was a double en-suite that looked out onto the piste going down to the gondola. It was very warm and had a TV which was nice, and the bathroom was really clean. I was just staying there with my girlfriend and I would definitely recommend it to other couples. There were also a lot of families who seemed to be having a good time there too.

The exchange rate while we were there was £2 to 1 Lev and everything was a lot cheaper than places like France with 3 course meals for around £20 each. Drinking was really cheap too. There was a pool indoors which we didn’t use that much but if you were staying as a family you could go and spend time there. The hotel actually overlooks one of the ski slopes and it took no more than five minutes to walk in all our ski gear to the lifts, we really liked the location. The food was pretty awful, everything was dry and bland, but this didn’t impact our holiday at all as eating out was really good and so cheap. Everything else was absolutely fine; the service was good with nice happy people and there were no hygiene issues with anything.

The Hotel Sport is lovely, right on the slopes and ski in / ski out which with 2 small kids is ideal. You just skied down to the main gondola and up you went. The staff were fine and made us a picnic breakfast on the day we left which was really nice. The room we had was fine, the four of us were in a family room with a nice balcony overlooking the slopes, the guests were mainly other families so I would definitely recommend it if you have children. We were full board, the hotel do turn the menu over but it was quite similar food every night so we did eat out a couple of times. Bansko is quite a big town down at the bottom, and the actual ski resort is a main strip with the Hotel Sport right on the strip towards the top end, with all the ski hire shops, restaurants etc nearby (there’s an Irish bar next to the hotel which was really nice).

"Hotel is really nice, food not, basement club noisy"

The food was freezing all week, they provided a microwave and you had to heat it yourself which we were not very impressed with. There’s an Irish bar beneath the rooms and every night until 1 or 2 in the morning there was so much noise we had to keep calling up and complaining. The rest of the hotel is really nice, they had a spa but it didn’t open on time when I wanted to use it. I had an accident on the first day and was and not told we had to make an insurance claim until it was too late (this was the reps, not the hotel).
