Les Carroz last minute
If you’re after a big ski area and a quiet place to lay your head, Carroz should definitely make the shortlist. The Grand Massif might just be the most underrated ski area around – with ‘Canada-like’ off piste and mile after mile of runs for each ability. With architecture harking back to its days as a farming village, Les Carroz itself is relaxed and charming, with its fair share of restaurants, bars and shops.
When it comes to ski holidays, every seasoned skier knows it’s not just the early bird that catches the worm. It’s standard skiing form to hold off till the 11th hour and peck up some juicy, wriggling deals when snow conditions have been given a nod from the weatherman.
The area’s packing its own micro-climate, so the slopes are likely to hold up whether you’re heading out in December, April or somewhere in between (look at the snow history and train your eyes on the current snow forecast for more info). If Mother Nature does let you down, there’s always the Flaine Bowl higher up for powder, powder, and more powder. Experts are going to want to check out the off-piste there anyway, not to mention the Gers Bowl just beyond.
