Overview: apartment description: L'Ours Blanc Apartments description

Located right in the very heart of Alpe d'Huez, the Grandes Rousses ski area is easily reached by the well known bucket lifts going to the Rond Points des Pistes and ski school meeting point.

These apartments have direct access to a shopping gallery which has plenty of bars, restaurants, delicatessen and a bakery. This also gives you direct access to the ice skating rink. The resort swimming pools, that are included in the lift pass, are also conveniently close to the apartments. The great location makes these apartments ideal for groups of friends or families.

The apartments are comfortable and most boast wonderful views of the valley or Oisans Massif.

This package holiday to L'Ours Blanc Apartments in Alpe d'Huez, France departs Saturday 8th March 2025, for a 7 night stay on a "self catering" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 2024 was between €1 and €3 per person, per night.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d'Huez is very accessible from Grenoble or Chambery airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain. It is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as "...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936, and with the culmination of around 20 Million Euros of improvements due to come to fruition for 2021, there is a huge ski area to be explored. With a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers. There are plenty of wide-open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the bl...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe. It combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithy’s has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex food to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France, O’Sharkey’s is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’Huez has all of the usual culinary delights you’d expect in the mountains. To sample some traditional French food, ...

"Suited us perfectly"

Caroline Hammer, Chelmsford
4/ out of 5
We had a really good week – our apartment had a fantastic view straight onto the slopes and was warm, clean, comfortable and well equipped. It was great for the 3 of us but would have been a bit of a squash for 4 – it had a bunk bed when we went in and then 2 chairs that turned into beds. We did a mix of cooking for ourselves and eating out, there’s a shop just up the road which makes getting food really easy. The location is perfect as it’s central but quiet – we had fantastic access to the slopes as the bus dropped us off at various lifts from outside the apartment block and we could ski back, only having to carry our skis a little bit. There’s also the ice rink just up the road.

"Near slopes - clean and comfortable"

Richard Cable, Cambridge
4/ out of 5
Inside was clean and comfortable; me and two others took a four man apartment with two bedrooms in the front bit and a pull-out double bed by the balcony. The balcony had a nice view looking over a couple of slopes. We cooked in the apartment a few nights and there are a couple of supermarkets local to it for getting ingredients. The actual place was fine, a bit noisy with some kids letting their hair down and running around but it seemed to quiet down so maybe someone said something. The apartment is a little on the outskirts but it’s very close to the slopes, about a five minute walk and you’re straight on the cable cars and chair lift. Alpe d’Huez is quite a compact place so everything is within easy reach.

"Perfect for our group of mates"

Oliver Banfield, Flitwick
4/ out of 5
For a young group of lads or girls, these apartments are perfect. We just had the normal 60 square metre apartment but you can also get the ‘deluxe’ one which I think is 80 square metres. It’s a two level apartment and the rooms were all ready when we got there. The 4 sleeping on the top level loved it, the double room is really nice and the bunk beds are average at best. Downstairs, the 2 sofas become single beds. There is a 7th bed that folds out in-between the two sofas but we didn’t need it as there were 6 of us – if there were 7 people staying here, the one in this bed would get the short straw. If you’re here as a group, the 3 staying downstairs would need to be the most chilled out ones who don’t really mind where they sleep. The bonus of staying downstairs is that you do have the most storage space – there are loads of empty cupboards around the kitchen. Inside has everything you need really, it’s hot and the showers work fine. There were 2 showers in the apartment we had, we used the downstairs one to dump our ski stuff in as there wasn’t anywhere else to keep it. The kitchen has a dining room table, kettle and a cooker and we cooked here for ¾ of the nights. The supermarket is literally down the road about a 2 or 3 minute walk. The apartments are right next to the ice rink and bars and stuff. It’s a little trek to the ski lifts but nothing major (not very fun when you're hungover!), it probably took us about 10 minutes – pass the rink and pool, turn left and walk up the hill. The bars are a bit spread but there’s a really good one next to the apartments which is a stock exchange bar where the drink prices change every 15 minutes, good fun!

"Great for our group of families"

Julian Bussell, Wellington
4/ out of 5
There was a group of 12 of us in 2 or 3 apartments and they were great, we had no problems with them and I’d go back. We went as families with younger children and it was quite family orientated, not noisy at all. Our apartment was as it said it would be, comfortable and warm with lots of hot water. We dined out most nights as I don’t want to cook when I’m on holiday and we had some good meals out, there are some nice places to go nearby including a little bar right underneath. We used to take the bus to get to the lifts, you just hop on and go down to the next stop or a couple of stops and you’re there, there are lots of buses so it wasn’t a big issue. There was loads of snow while we were here so you could actually ski down the path to the apartments if you wanted to.
