This package holiday to L'Amara Apartments in Avoriaz, France departs Saturday 25th January 2025, for a 7 night stay on a "self catering" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 2024 was between €1 and €3 per person, per night.

Established in the 1960s as the brainchild of Olympic champion skier Jean Vuarnet, Avoriaz is a purpose build resort with tonnes of character. The wood-clad buildings have a striking appearance that set it apart from other destinations. Even more impressive is the 360° panorama of the Alps. Avoriaz is brilliantly located right in the centre of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Completely ski-in ski-out, a holiday in Avoriaz means you don't have to lug your equipment around and you can maximise time on the slopes...
Avoriaz is one of our favourite resorts to bring the family - thanks to a huge and central children's village, complete with a specialised snowboarding area, children can learn to ski and ride in a fun and safe environment. Avoriaz is one of the only resorts that has a Beginner Pass, letting you find your feet on easy terrain via 14 lifts without the expense of a full lift pass. Beginners-only piste Première Glisse gives you the chance to improve at your own pace, while Proclou and Q'monts are easy blues for cr...
Avoriaz has worked hard on it's apres game in the last few years, with the addition of a well-known apres go to 'La Folie Douce' for winter 2018. It has an array of restaurants, bars and off-slope activities that contribute to a lively après ski scene. Le Tavallion is an English themed pub for a home-from-home atmosphere, Shooters is good for party-lovers while Le Yak tends to be the venue of choice for late-night clubbing. "The location was really good! "

Georgina
4/ out of 5
Everything was fine and we had a good time over New Years Eve. We had 5x people in a two bedroom apartment with one of the kids sleeping in the lounge. We had no complaints and it all ran smoothly, so pretty happy with it. The location was really good, the boot room was good and we loved the access to the slopes. It was ski in/ski out and the only slight difficulty was the distance to the ski school. You had to walk uphill and then ski down and we had a little one so it was a little bit more tricky. Some of the ski schools got a horse and cart to pick them up to take them to the ski school, but our ski school didn’t do that.

"Loved them! Perfect for our family!"

We loved our apartments, had a brilliant holiday and hope to book the same for next year. For us, the location was the best thing, some families might think it’s too far but we loved how quiet it was – you couldn’t hear a pin drop in the evenings. Unless you’re a proficient skier you can’t get to ski school without getting the horse-drawn carriage. We found that delightful anyway, and by day 3 our boys were skiing well enough to manage it. If you’re walking to a restaurant, you have quite a steep hill to get up… And if you’re going to the little minimarket it’s about an 8 minute uphill walk. We didn’t mind it at all, but it might be a problem for some. Loved the actual accommodation, everything was amazing from the rooms to the bedclothes. It was like being in a hotel and an apartment, they happily changed the sheets if need be. The boys could go over to reception and get a DVD which was great. The pool was amazing as were the sauna and spa facilities. The boot room was beautifully kept and not too busy.

The L’Amara apartment blocks are in a very, very nice place and I really enjoyed staying there. There were a few little niggle things that weren’t very clever; what let them down was that they didn’t have enough cleaners for the change over and us and about 300 other people had to sit around for about 3 hours while they sorted it out. There could have been better instructions for the hob and hot plate as it took ages to get it to work (even the rep couldn’t work it out). The way all four buildings are connected is by underground passageways so you can get from your building to the main bit without going outside which is ideal if you have bad weather in the week. Our teenage kids loved it as they were all staying in another building and had to use the tunnels a lot to get around. Inside was spotless though and the overall place was brilliant, with fantastic facilities (swimming pool, steam rooms, gym). It’s ski in / ski out so getting out is really easy. There wasn’t a shop near as the place was so new, so we had to walk back into town. I wouldn’t mind betting they’ve put a shop in now as they had enough space to and it would be stupid not to.
