Overview: hotel description: Johannesbad Hotel Palace description

There’s a lot going on at the Hotel Palace. It's a little bigger than you may expect from an Austrian hotel – which is handy as it’s very popular.

In a quiet spot on the edge of a park, surrounding the resort's thermal spa centre, the location is perfect if you’re after a bit of peace in the evening. It’s also just a few minutes to the centre of Bad Hofgastein. For the ski lifts, we’d recommend using the regular ski buses to make the most of the full Gastein Valley.

The hotel has its own large indoor thermal pool and an impressive spa complex, complete with saunas, steam bath and a salt inhalation cave. And sport and fitness is taken care of too – there are indoor tennis courts, aqua-gymnastic sessions and a fitness room with all the essentials to keep in shape.

There's also an entertainment programme with live music and a games room with pool and table tennis, so there's plenty to do after a day on the slopes.

In the evening, there's a large international dinner buffet with plenty of choice – even for the pickiest of diners.

The rooms are both functional and spacious, but if you choose the small rooms for a couple, please be aware that the beds are very cosy – measuring around 140cm in width and are fixed in the corner of the room.

This stunning location is considered somewhat of a “secret resort” and locals describe it as the “hidden gem” of Austria. Bad Hofgastein is a beautiful market town and world-renowned spa destination in one of Austria’s largest and highest ski areas with a tight-knit winter sports and spa community. The resort itself is a traditional, chocolate-box Austrian town that is perfect for a peaceful and relaxing ski break. Visitors find it charmingly welcoming and the historic décor of the area is very easy to f...
The skiing is considered world class - as the largest resort in The Gastein Valley, with access to four other ski resorts, you’ll find hugely varied terrain here. There are slopes to suit everyone and over the course of your ski break there will be no need to ski the same slope twice! The runs range from gentle slopes for lower level intermediates to very challenging descents that will get even the most seasoned skier excited. There is an efficient and modern lift system and the icing on the cake is access to t...
While the après here is fairly quiet compared to other “party resorts” it’s considered the best town in the Gastein Valley for nightlife. Piccolo is a popular après ski bar based in the centre of town – after braving a few tequilas you’ll spend all night dancing on tables to retro classics. If dancing on tables sounds a bit energetic after a day on the slopes, Kamunbar is perfect for a more relaxed evening enjoying a drink accompanied by live music. Head to Vision for the ultimate night out that’ll leave...

"A good hotel"

Andrius, Greater London
5/ out of 5
This is a nice hotel and I have no complaints at all. The location’s also quite good, it’s a small town so you can go anywhere in 5-10 minutes. Depending where the lift is, you could get the transfer to the slopes in about 10-15 minutes. In general the food was good although personally I’m not a fan of buffets. On my last ski holiday, the hotel had a menu which I preferred, although for some people, buffets can be a better option. They had a good amount of choice with fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, all of good standards. I was happy with my room - a spacious single room with a big, queen sized bed. Everyone who worked there was very helpful, the hotel is quite big but everything worked perfectly and the facilities like the sauna were very good.
