Nestled in the heart of the rocky, North-West Alps, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to an Italian version of Narnia as you reach the end of the snow-topped pines and arrive at the foot of the holiday village. Airport transfers direct to your door from either of Italy’s Turin or Milan airports and Geneva means you won’t find yourself lugging your skis and boots in tow as you seek out your accommodation. The resort’s nearest train station can be found at Châtillon Saint-Vincent, 28km from the resort, and has a good bus and taxi connection between the two.

This Northern mountain village is traffic-free, meaning you’re at ease to stroll amongst the characteristic streets of mismatched modern apartments and traditional Alpine chalets, enjoying an array of hearty restaurants, bars, supermarkets and boutiques. For local produce, try La Maison des Gourmands for great Aosta Valley cheeses like Fontina and Fromadzo. If you’re not in the mood to shop on a day off from skiing, there’s a fantastic range of snow activities including air boarding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.

This little firecracker of a village- mostly peaceful from Monday to Friday - crackles and comes to life at the weekend as the Italians ascend for a spot of weekend skiing themselves.

A top resort for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, with green and blue runs tailored to nervous beginners; varying difficulties of reds for intermediates and black pistes with plenty of off-piste opportunity for experts. A standard 6-day ski pass is the Breuil-Cervinia Valtourneche pass, with the possibility to extend to all of the Aosta Valley after 3 days. International weekly passes can be purchased to include Switzerland’s Zermatt, adding another 200km. Daily tariffs are available for all nearby resorts if you fancy a bit of mid-week travelling.

What is Cervinia like for Beginner skiers?

18 beginner runs make this ideal for novice skiers wanting to embark on their romance with snow sports. Take the chair lift to Plan Torrette to get a feel for the gentler blue runs. This is a great place for children to learn as ski schools take young skiers up magic carpets and around a whole new world of slopes.

What is Cervinia like for Intermediate skiers?

A bucket load of intermediate runs means that already accomplished skiers can only find themselves getting better and better. You’ll find lots of wide and gentle blues and a few easy reds (such as red 24) that are perfect for developing the technique to transform those jagged zigzags into stylish S-shaped turns. As the ski area links seamlessly with neighbouring Zermatt, those looking to cover some distance have a massive total of 350km to explore.

What is Cervinia like for Advanced skiers?

For extreme skiers, try the 7 black runs. Take the cable car up to the 3883m drop-off point for a tantalizing decent from glacier Matterhorn Paradise.

What is Cervinia like for snowboarding?

Kind slopes spell ideal for beginner and early intermediate snowboarders who can avoid having to unstrap too often as this resort only has a few button lifts. Head over to the huge, 9 acres Indianpark in the Plan Maison area to bust some moves on their various rails, jumps and boxes. Why not challenge a friend to a high-speed race on the slopes’ boarder-cross?

What is Cervinia like for off-piste skiing?

For off-piste, do some heli-skiing or go above Plan Torrette, where moguls line the runway. Freeriding fanatics should think of adding a day lift pass to Zermatt if you haven’t experienced the Matterhorn yet – while you’re there, take the Plateau Rosa lifts and carve your way down the Theodul glacier.

What is Cervinia like for cross country skiing?

Cervnia and Valtournenche have 10km cross country course. One of 3km for novices and highly reliable snow conditaions. The rest are a bit lower dowin in altitude and vary in difficulty.

Cervinia Restaurants

Few do food better than the Italians - Pizzas loved by locals and tourists alike can be found at the Sotto Zero, perfect for all the family with classic Margherita for the little ‘uns and Alpine topping twists for you. Spend a romantic, quiet night in at Lo Copo Pan sat in front of a cosy log fire after having enjoyed a traditionally Italian meal of antipasti and meat fondue: mamma mia! If you’re looking for a familiar meal of hamburgers and fries washed down with some British ale, head over to the Dragon Hotel’s Welsh pub for some small home comforts.

You’ll also be veeery hungry. Lucky for you, Châlet Etoile can conveniently be found at the bottom of the Matterhorn. Perfect for a warming Italian dish in the evening post ski, or a luncheon meal of cold Italian cuts and sandwiches providing you with the energy to power through the day. How about everyone’s favourite: an Alpine cheese fondue or raclette? Cheesey good. The perfect starting location for mountain walks both in summer and winter on the chase for beautiful Cervinian scenery.

Ristorante Alpage A mixture of Alpine classics cooked up with French and Italian local twists. Polenta stuffed beef; crepes and Carpaccio with local Aosta Valley cheese are just some of the culinary delights diners can find at the Ristorante Alpage. Find fondues of all varieties, from cheese to meat to chocolate! A quaint converted chalet every part the traditional, Alpine experience.

Ristorante Maison Jean Bich Di Pers da Mario Said to be the place to eat if you’re after some fine dining in Cervinia, with staff known for their warm welcome, cosy environment, fantastic wine list and even better food! You’ll find the restaurant a bit further away from the main hub but well worth visiting for Italian and Swiss mountain classics.

Resto Grill Les Clochards Enjoy a tasty evening meal accompanied by an open fire or panoramic view in lovely Les Clochards – it’s entirely up to you. We love the homely atmosphere here, you really can sit back, relax and enjoy fantastic local food. Specialising in tasty dishes from the Aosta Valley (think grilled meats, raclettes, pierades and even more cheese), you’ll find Les Clochards on the road to the Church of the Alpine. Find out if they’re still offering a free taxi service in the evening to justify buying an extra bottle from their superb wine menu.

La Grotta Right by the slopes in the centre of the resort (on Via Bich), is one of our favourite places for pizza, La Grotta. They cook their pizzas the traditional way in a wood oven (and the list of pizza options seems to be endless!) and you can choose between sitting in the Italian sunshine with a glass of vino on their lovely big terrace or grabbing a table inside for tasty food. Traditional Aosta Valley food is also available.

Jour et Nuit This is a bit of a hidden gem that those who have been to will definitely visit again, especially those who like a good steak! A cosy little restaurant (best to book in advance to make sure you get a table), with friendly staff and a good selection of dishes from Valle d’Aosta including salami, cheeses, home made pasta and a smashing fillet steak. Ask about their wine tasting sessions if you fancy trying some of Italy’s finest.

Cervinia Après Ski

Après ski, Après ski, Après ski! A popular spot to start the evening is at the Grivola’s Irish bar which has a happy hour after the lifts close. To extend your night, move the party on to the village’s happening Bianconiglio club, which offers a range of music including live performances to suit all clientele.

Bars Late Night Clubs and Cafes in Cervinia

Lino’s Bar A chalet style bar conveniently backing Lino’s natural ice skating rink: perfect for a medicinal drink to soothe those aching bruises, or a spot of Dutch courage to get Bambis on the ice in the first place. Open from 9am (if you really want to start early!) ‘til 11pm, Lino’s is the perfect location for a hearty knees up between friends. Don’t miss their karaoke nights, the best kind of bonding occasion.

Bar Restaurant Metzelet Sip a cocktail on bar restaurant Metzelet’s terrace in summer, and in winter if the weather’s permitting! For chillier days and nights, retreat inside to its cosy lounging area complete with Alpine log fire. Sandwich snacks and other light dishes available if you’re feeling a little peckish.

Bar Copapan The Copa Pan is one of the best places to go for friendly, lively après after a day on the slopes in Cervinia. We love its reputation for a friendly welcome, feel good music and good food and drink. Find out if they’re still doing a happy hour and you might save a few pennies... They serve tasty nibbles to accompany your choice of tipple and you can also book a table in their restaurant which is down in the cellar.

Cervinia Activites for Non-skiers

For those who prefer to wake up doe-eyed and fresh-faced in the morning to attack the extreme sporting day ahead, turn your attention to the Hermitage Hotel’s spa to soothe those aching muscles. Cervinia is not at a loss where creative and unique snow-inspired ideas are concerned. Why not try your hand at some of the winter activities including ice-karting; mountaineering; a guided hike to a frozen waterfall; snow dinghies; a ride on a snowmobile or snowbike; air-boarding (like wakeboarding, but on snow!); explore ice caves or try some good old-fashioned snowshoeing.

Dog Sled Man Dog sledding is only possible in Alaska, no? Wrong-o. You too can be pulled along by a team of huskies and other snow dogs alike in the not-so-far-away Alpine resort of Cervinia. Start the experience with a 30 minute bumper course in all things theoretical and technical of dog sledding. Once you’ve got your sled driving licence as it were, take to the mountain course, where you will have the opportunity to guide and lead your very own pack of dogs. This activity is offered to both child and adult chauffeurs.

Hotel Zerbion Health Farm For a girly finish to a day of extreme sporting, drag your aching legs down to Hotel Zerbion’s Health Farm. Equipped with sauna, whirlpool bath and Turkish bath, it’ll be just what your muscles were crying out for all day long. Relax, repose and rejuvenate, ready to attack the slopes again tomorrow. Massages available on reservation (cheeky). Men welcome too.

Equestrian Center Valley Tourism Rhemes Meet the Equestrian Center’s horses: Sansone, Gianduia and Romy down the farm, not forgetting the very Italian named pony, Billy. Walks and treks vary in time and difficulty depending on level of rider.

Associazione Geographica Be at one with nature as the Geographic Association take you to the Aosta Valley’s most beautiful sights with their "Trekking & Natura" walks, including the Gran Paradiso natural park and Mont Avic region. Stay overnight in mountain huts if you think its warm enough for the ultimate hippie experience.

Bouncy castles; inner tubes, sledges and toboggans for sliding; trucks and tractors; pails and spades for digging in the snow; play houses and slides and baby skis for tiny tots, all accessible by magic carpet.

Best Time to Visit Cervinia

An amazing top altitude of 3,883m at Piccolo Cervino and North/North-West facing slopes set you up just spiffingly for a snow sure winter ski break throughout the season, which is usually from the end of December to the beginning of April. And it doesn’t stop there for ski time in Cervinia: the snow is so good you can usually enjoy a spot of morning summer skiing here too.

What's Cervinia like at Christmas?

Enjoy a white Christmas in Cervinia as the village is covered in twinkling tinsel. A Whoville for Christmas lovers as you ice skate on a frozen lake; stroll through the fairy lit Aosta Christmas market and eat a Christmas feast of Italian proportions.

What's Cervinia like in the New Year?

Ski Accommodation in Cervinia

We have 5282 ski holidays in Cervinia. Search all Cervinia ski deals or pick your preferred accommodation type below:

Cervinia is a great resort for families with young children and teens. The mini inflatables snow-park will avoid tiny tots feeling disappointed that they're too small to ski in this terrific play area. The mini club and beginner's area equipped with magic carpet are perfect for older children as their skills improve day by day, and it's reassuring for mums and dads to know they're in a safe place, having a ball. Those experienced enough can hit the resort's two snow parks for jumps, pipes and slalom.

Christmas markets, festivals and ski schools mean there'll be something going on for the whole family during school holidays, whether you decide to visit Cervinia at Christmas, New Year, Half-Term or Easter. Family apartments mean meal times can be just like at home, but that might not appeal to the chef, so we recommend a hotel for a successful family ski holiday in Cervinia! Hotel family rooms offer ample excitement for children with the opportunity for a king-size sleepover. Call us to find out about our hotels' childcare programmes and the best deals for you and your family.

Cervinia’s snow-sure ski area is ideal for groups coming from different abilities. Its enormous range of blues and easy reds are perfectly suited for beginners and early intermediates. Breuil Cervinia Valtournenche has several black runs for the brave-hearted with good off-piste opportunities, snowparks and the opportunity to head to beautiful Zermatt for the day.

If some in your group like a “bit of social” on their ski holiday, places like the Yeti Bar and Welsh Dragon’s Bar provide a relatively calm location for an aperitif, but that’s really only the start of a night out in Cervinia. After a few quiet drinks turn into the need for a night on the town dancing, the above mentioned sole Bianconiglio club hosts the cheesiest of nights typical of European discotheques – highly recommended!

Hotels like the Breuil are just marvellous for groups, as you meet for dinner and drinks in the bar after having washed and warmed in the personal space of your own room. Continue the evening communally downstairs if you have the energy, or head back up to your room if you’re too knackered to string 2 words together. Extra friends can choose to join the holiday post-booking with a hotel if more rooms are available, making a very flexible group holiday. SNO’s group discounts and deals are not to miss, so browse the options below or call our specialists with your requirements.

Cervinia ticked so many boxes for me. Skiing wise it’s a lot of fun – plenty of cruisy blues and reds to choose from, plus enjoyable and easily accessed off-piste for the great powder it can frequently get (and we received, thankfully!) Really liked Cervinia, but the two and a half hour transfer would put me off returning. We didn’t venture into town much as the all-inclusive Club Med had all the entertainment we needed, but the skiing was nice. Cervinia’s really nice and we’re already looking to go back. The slopes were ideal for us as beginners to skiing, and the whole place is really pretty with the most amazing views. It was only a bit of a downer that we didn’t have any fresh snow on Christmas week, but we still had a fantastic time. + more

Great views of the Matterhorn, snow-sure, great food and a better price but still allowing you to ski the Zermatt area. Buying the joint Cervinia&Zermatt pass costs a hundred pounds less if you buy it in Cervinia than it does if you buy it in Zermatt (it did in 2013 anyway). Cervinia is a great place for beginners and intermediates as the runs are like motorways, very wide and not too taxing. We’ve been to Cervinia before, it’s very nice. It’s stunning there, beautiful scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. The skiing was fine, we had a couple of glorious days and then quite a few snowy ones with bad visibility.
