This hidden gem of a village is tucked away at the foot of Col Rodella within the Dolomites. The area is known for having some of the most beautiful scenery in the region including the Sella Massif, famous panettone-shaped Sassolungo and Val Duron with its meadows, woods and stream. Campitello is Val di Fassa’s oldest tourist resort as well as one of the smallest and remains unspoilt with oodles of traditional charm.

Small, quaint and picturesque, the village is made up of a number of hotels, restaurants and bars, many housed in old converted barns. Campitello’s quiet, narrow streets and friendly atmosphere make it ideal for families wanting a relaxing getaway, groups looking to gain some skills on the piste before settling down with a few evening tipples and couples on a romantic retreat to the snow. Food lovers are sure to be satisfied with a number of traditional Italian restaurants and cosy mountain bars set high on the mountain where you can sip some warming grolla and appreciate the scenery.

The village itself is easily accessible from the main airports in Venice and Verona – around a 2.5 hour transfer time from both and there are two train stations nearby, Bolzano and Trento, which both have taxi and bus connections to the resort.

The Val di Fassa/ Carezza pass gives access to lifts in the nearby resorts within the valley such as Belvedere, Buffaure, Catinaccio, Carezza and Nova Levante. With an ideal position in the Sella Ronda circuit, skiers and boarders can take advantage of all the resorts surrounding the magnificent Sella Massif (the famous Sella Ronda ski tour can be completed in a day with the Dolimiti Superski pass).

Free ski buses transport visitors easily around the mountain and Campitello’s larger neighbour Canazei, on the other side of the Col Rodella, can be reached by taking the red run down in to the village.

What is Campitello like for Beginner skiers?

There are two beginner slopes at base level, the Campo Scuola da Faè and the slightly longer Col de Lin. These are two easy cruising slopes where you can gain some confidence before heading up the mountain. The local ski school also takes lessons here and a kinder club is available for youngsters just starting out. The meeting point is just next to the Col Rodella cable car making drop-offs and pick-ups a breeze.

What is Campitello like for Intermediate skiers?

The area’s perfect for intermediate skiers who enjoy a range of gradients with some smooth, wide runs as well as a steep ridge with harder verticals for more of a challenge. A highlight of this ski area is its central position giving skiers an expanse of piste to explore and intermediates wanting to clock up some mileage can ski the 4.4km red Tre-3 to the Belvedere- Canazei area or head over on the Sella Pass to the Val Gardene where the red Mertinelli is another favourite.

What is Campitello like for Advanced skiers?

The legendary Sella Ronda Ski tour covers 4 passes, 4 valleys and 3 provinces and is a must ski for experienced skiers – it’s doable in a day (best to set off before 10am – you’ll need the Dolomiti Superski pass).

What is Campitello like for snowboarding?

The boarder crosses a great place to gain some speed and boarders can take advantage of the Dolomiti Park park in Canazei, which has a Big Air, Boardercross, jibbing area and quarter as well as kickers, rails and boxes.

What is Campitello like for off-piste skiing?

The main skiing area for the village is Col Rodella, situated just above the resort and a short cable ride from the base. At this higher altitude, skiers and boarders can enjoy a wide variety of terrain on a perfect blanket of snow.

One of our favourite restaurants is ‘Mini’ which offers a selection of traditional Italian cuisine. Choose from a variety of meats, cheeses and wines - indulge in their amazing cappuccino ice-cream for dessert. This is ideal for a romantic evening or intimate night with family and friends.For a casual bite head to La Stalla del Nonno, a pizzeria in the centre of the town with good value food and a friendly atmosphere and be sure to indulge your sweet tooth at the Paticceria Marlene. This cheap, cheerful spot has some of the best pastries in the area, perfect for that well-deserved chocolate fix after a long day on the snow.

Campitello Après Ski

As one of the smaller villages in the Val di Fassa, the après scene is fairly low-key and attracts those wanting laid-back evenings with good food and casual drinks. Most of the hotels have bars so parents with young children can enjoy a drink without having to leave the property. These are also ideal for groups and couples wanting quiet evening drinks. Whether stopping off at a cosy mountain bar or in your favourite restaurant, make sure you try the traditional Italian Grolla- this sharing goblet is filled with warmed grappa and coffee for an instant pick me up. There are a handful of bars which generally liven up at the weekends with the influx of local Italians. Waikiki is a popular spot for cocktails and Il Pavone usually has its music playing until the early hours.

As well as wining and dining there is the fully equipped Ischia sports complex with football pitches and basketball courts as well as a mini-golf circuit nearby. Snowshoe tours and winter trekking are also on offer with the ski school.

This ski resort is great, not too big and not one of the smaller resorts - just right ! With the medium sized resorts, there are more shopping options but not as many as the large resorts, however the shops they have are fun and all you would need for your holiday. For fun and quirky gifts, Hexen Ladele ( Translates to Ladele Witches) has a variety of quirky and fun gifts and souvenirs. There are many sports shops to assist with your equipment hiring. There is a larger Campitello shopping centre that is constantly expanding to meet the growing visitor population. In the centre you can buy souvenirs, alpine decor and many great food options!

Best Time to Visit Campitello

With most of the ski area above 2000m, you’re likely to get some fantastic snow conditions throughout the season, with the best snow usually falling in February and March. When snow in the resort may be sparse at each end of the season you won’t need to worry about bad conditions at lower altitudes as the Col Rodella chair transports everybody back to base. On weeks when snow may not be in such rich supply, terrific snowmaking technology ensures good coverage on the runs.

As this is a small resort with a big ski area, slopes are rarely over-crowded, however, due to its popularity with families, peak times such as Christmas will be slightly busier. The Italians don’t have a half term holiday, so there shouldn’t be much queuing for the lifts over February half term.

This quiet village is a popular destination for families, with a laid-back and friendly atmosphere on and off the slopes.

Parents travelling with youngsters needing lessons can take advantage of the local ski school - lessons take place on the blue Col di Lin which is just at the front of the village making pick ups and drop offs easy.

The Campitello ski school also has a children’s club taking youngsters from age 3. Lessons take place on the Kinderland, a fun playground on the snow just next to the Col Rodella cable car and in the Banzimalia Park which is another snow playground next to the nursery slope in Strèda Roma.

Families with children at an intermediate level should find a number of runs to enjoy cruising throughout the day on the Col Rodella and if you’re looking to head further afield, the red Tre-3 descends down in to Canazei where the main cable takes you up to the skiing on Belevedere. If you’ve all been skiing for years, set aside a day to ski the terrific Sella Ronda Circuit. You’ll have to upgrade to the Dolomiti Superski pass if you haven’t already, and it’s best to leave before 10am to get the whole circuit done in good time - the experience of skiing across 3 provinces and 4 valleys is well worth it.

The village is a pleasant place for families – there are a number of friendly eateries such as La Stalla del Nonno pizzeria and ristorante Olympic- ideal for a post-piste snack.

Hotels are the perfect option if you don’t want to worry about arranging meals - half-board means breakfast and dinner are included. Ask our ski specialists about hotels with kids clubs and babysitting services if you have children who will need looking after while you hit the slopes. Many of the hotels have swimming pools to enjoy if you have the energy after your day on the snow and the Ischia sports centre has a range of activities to get involved in with football pitches, tennis courts and even a climbing wall.

Campitello’s laid-back vibe would best suit groups who want long days on the piste and enjoyable evenings with great food and wine at a cosy Italian restaurant such as Della Villa before some casual cocktails at Waikiki bar.

Mixed abilities are well catered for, with beginners able to learn on the long blue Col di Lin whilst the more advanced skiers take to the higher grounds to explore all that the Sella Massif has to offer.

The rugged mountain top offers skiers and boarders a varied terrain so whilst the more confident take off to gain some speed on the steep ridge, the rest of the group can cruise the smoother runs – or even settle down in a cosy mountain bar to warm up on a chocolatta or hot wine. The Rifugio Friedeich August makes an ideal meeting point and is a favourite mountain refuge for skiers to take a respite from the snow. Its wooden décor offers a traditional alpine touch and its high altitude means you’ll be able to appreciate some stunning views from the terrace.

If you’re all experienced, reserve one day of the week to ski the amazing Sella Ronda circuit together – upgrade to the Dolomiti Superski pass for the day (if you haven’t already) and set off early (before 10am is best) - it covers 4 valleys, 4 passes and 3 provinces and is well worth skiing for an unforgettable day on the mountains.

Hotels are ideal for accommodating large groups and we have some great properties in prime location for the slopes. With a half board option you’ll be sorted for breakfast and dinner and many of the hotels have bars in the property too – the perfect place to wind down and catch up in the evening.
