It’s no surprise that Arabba has such a loyal following of dedicated skiers and boarders. A charming little village high up in the heart of the Dolomites, it has fantastic ski links, the best snow around and an infectiously easy-going vibe. We love the traditional Ladin charm and character and as for the location, the scenery speaks for itself.
This idyllic destination is nestled in the heart of the Dolomites surrounded by the Livinallongo valley in Ladin-speaking Veneto. With the striking Sella Massif and Portavesco mountain ranges on either side and the presence of the Marmolada mountain (fondly known as the ‘Queen of the Dolomites’), Arabba's beautiful landscape forms part of a UNESCO World heritage site.
One of the highest resorts in Italy, Arabba is small and cosy with traditional mountain architecture housing quaint bars, restaurants, hotels, chalets, apartments and a pretty village church.
Despite the stunning scenery and mountain charm oozing from every nook and cranny (did we mention it has some of the best snow in the area too?), Arabba remains somewhat of a hidden gem in the ski world, a well kept secret often overshadowed by the more commercial European resorts.
Bolzano is the nearest airport about 77km away and most holidays include flights to Innsbruck which is 145km (just over a 2h drive) from the resort. There are also easy motorway and rail connections via the A27 and Belluno or Brunico train stations.
The efficient lift-system transports skiers and boarders rapidly around and means queues are extremely rare, so even on busy weeks you should be straight up and out onto the piste. The 63km Arabba-Marmolada ski area is surrounded by mountain passes making it easy to ski the nearby resorts of Corvara, Alta Badia and even the Val di Fassa.
The Dolomiti Superski pass gives you access to the lifts in the main area as well as all the resorts around the Sella Ronda. The best way to make the most of this is to save a day for the Sella Ronda ski circuit - going directly from the resort this legendary route can be skied within a day covering 4 valleys and 3 provinces through the majestic scenery of the Dolomites.

Stop off on the slopes at Rifugio Fodom for a midday pick-me-up and enjoy spectacular views from the balcony. In true Italian style, take a time out with a coffee and a mouth-watering pastry at a traditional cafe- the cakes at Pasticceria Caffe Gelateri Genziana are not to be missed. TAs we all know, Italy is legendary for its gastronomic delights,and you’ll find some wonderful Italian restaurants offering a delicious taste of local cuisine. Micky’s grill is one of our favourites for its fantastic menu, mouth-watering wine list and pleasant ambiance. For a special meal try Viel del pan or for a casual bite, Pizzera la Table serves fantastic food in a friendly setting.
Rifugio Fodom Found in the Sellaronda, the views of the Dolomitic peaks from Rifugio Fodom are stunning. Enjoy the kitchen’s regional foods like homemade gnocchi, but don’t miss the fantastic pizzas they’re famed for. Parts of the beautiful outdoor terrace are protected by glass walls to shield you on a windy day and in the evenings you can adventure up on a snowmobile. It’s a gentle blue back to Arabba if you over indulge!
There’s a laid back après scene with most evenings spent in easy-going bars, trying out the local cuisine and relaxing in the comfortable accommodation. Most of the bars are connected to the various hotels - Peter’s is the most popular haunt for post-slope drinks and usually has a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Pub La Stube at Hotel Portevesco has a laid-back bar scene and the Austrian bar at Sporthotel Arabba is another hot spot. here are a few local specialities which are definitely worth a try - Bombardino is a soothing blend of hot brandy and advocaat whilst Grolla mixes grappa and espresso in a traditional sharing goblet.
There’s also the chance to immerse yourself in the history of the area on the Great War tour which leads around the significant Col di Lana mountain. Your leader will point out some incredible artefacts from the Great War such as pathways, tunnels and forts.
Being part of the UNESCO heritage site, snow- shoe excursions and winter treks are a popular activity here where you can appreciate the stunning scenery without having to don the skis.
Elikos Helicopter Service Any non-ski days can be filled with an epic helicopter tour over the stunning Dolomites. Rides range from 15-50 minutes (starting at 110 euros per person) and can take a maximum of 6 people plus the pilot. The take-off helipad is found in Passo Gardens, roughly a forty minute drive from Arabba resort. Elikos also offers airport transfers to travel in style to resort.
The long-established traditional shops of the area provide a very cosy and personalised feeling to your holiday, as a lot of the products are handmade and/or owned by the craftsmen or artisans there is a high level of customer service and great expertise of the products. Walking through the small shopping area is a great way to understand the culture and also experience the delicacies such as bacon, cold meats, cheese and preserves - not to mention the schnapps. The arts and craft stores and hand finished sculptures are a must see. There are a couple ski hire shops in the area and they will be equipped with all you need for your ski holiday.

Arabba Tourism Office The village of Arabba is surrounded by the most beautiful mountain peaks known as the Dolomites. The heart of the Dolomiti Superski is at 1602, above sea level and that being said, Arabba is incredibly charismatic and a much loved village in the Alps - making this an ideal holiday and getaway for both Winter and Summer times. Being surrounded by such fantastic landscape, there is no shortage of activities and opportunities. Activities for both summer and winter shine at this stunning location - you will not be bored! Arabba has a good mix of open and woodland slopes and is the gateway to the Marmolada Glacier, offering guaranteed snow at an altitude of 3,342 metres - which has one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites. Some activities that the tourism office can assist with booking are: Road biking, mountain biking, hiking and walking, ski hire and ski lifts, snowshoeing and more! The team at the tourism office can assist with all bookings of tickets and ski lift passes. They are a great team of knowledgeable experts in their fields with great information on the villages and activities - who are ready to help! The tourist office is located in the centre of the village near the church with parking located in the front of the building. Arabba is recommend for families and adult groups looking for excellent value for money in a quaint Italian resort with access to miles of pistes. The town has an outdoor skating rink and a wonderful torchlight descent every Thursday, which is a magical way to end your ski holidays. The Tourism Office is open all year round except of the month of November where it is closed completely.
