This traditional mountain village sits at a high 1930m in Austria’s Oztal valley. Obergurgl is renowned as a snow sure resort with some of Austria’s highest altitudes, making it well worth a visit if you’re travelling particularly early or late in the season. Scattered with upmarket accommodation, the village itself blends a luxury touch with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It has a vibrant character, and alpine charm with many a Tyrolean tradition found in the town and on the mountains in popular slope...
Many highly regarded ski schools are on hand for beginners – there's a gentle learning slope at the resort for picking up the basics. A mini club and ski kindergarten are available at the Obergurgl Ski School where skiing is taught in a fun and safe environment for little ones just starting. The Top-express Gondola takes you to Hochgurgl's higher altitudes. Wide pistes and amazing snow make this the perfect area for progressing beginners to test their abilities. After steadying those legs, work your way up t...
The après starts on the mountains where there are many bars ready to serve skiers that well-deserved pick me up of warm glühwein. The skis come off at the lively Nederhütte, just above the resort, where merry skiers mingle with drinks accompanied by live music before getting up on the tables when the real party starts. The gondola next to the bar will take those a little unsteady on their skis back to the resort - when these close, skidoos run everyone back to base. Hohe Mut is another favourite amongst sk...

"Attentive staff, great location"

Very 1980s hotel tired, food was fine. Thomas, the waiter, all very good, very attentive. Rooms perfectly clean. Ski location all good, boot room good. There is bar linked to the crystal hotel next door which had afternoon tea so felt like I missed out. Took the cable car right next door, amenities very local. The door to the back where you would come out with your ski boots, the lock was broken so it was pain trying to open the door. Monday – Tuesday have access spa area, would be good to have all week.

"Great leisure facilities. Be warned that the triples aren’t appropriate for 3 adults"

This hotel is great if you aren’t bothered about staying in a 4 star hotel but you would like the facilities of one. The hotel itself is an average 3 star hotel really. The leisure facilities are absolutely brilliant because they are shared with The Crystal, the 4 star hotel next door. The location is also fantastic – ski in/ ski out. The gondola leaves right from the hotel. The rooms and the food were ok. The portions were very small and the menu was a bit strange (there were some odd combinations that didn’t really work). The rooms weren’t very big, especially the triples, they were literally an Austrian twin bed plus a child’s bed. Not really big enough for 3 grown men. The hotel admitted that they aren’t really adult triples once we pointed it out, so it’s good to remember this if you are booking a group. We ended up changing our rooms around with some assistance from Sno. We stayed here on a stag do, and although we didn’t really party in the hotel, we found the staff were accommodating and fine with our group. I had been to this hotel before, so I knew what to expect, and I knew it would suit our group. The service at the hotel is good and there are some bars and pubs nearby. I would recommend the Nederhütte up on the mountain which was a lot of fun.
