The family run Hotel Somont benefits from having a great location, snap on your skis and cruise down the short blue run into Selva which gives you access to the wider Dolomites Ski Area, alternatively it is just a 300 metre walk to the centre where you can find a range of shops, bars and cafes.

The hotel also benefits from having a lovely spa area with an indoor pool and range of saunas.

Homely hotel

Loving run by the Rudiferia family, you'll be sure to receive a warm welcome - be sure to ask the team their recommendations of the best places to ski and have lunch on the slopes. Each room in the Somont is unique, furnished in a modern Alpine style with homely touches and cosy decor throughout.

Many of the rooms feature a balcony with a mountain view, so you can enjoy fabulous views of the Sassolungo and the nearby slopes.

The food is something to look forward to, too. Fuel up for a day on the mountain at the varied breakfast buffet, and enjoy a delicious evening meal when you return. Each evening you can enjoy a three-course menu featuring fresh ingredients from the South Tyrol. To go with your meal, enjoy a bottle of local wine - the staff will be happy to make recommendations.

Ski in, ski out

The charming hotel benefits from having a piste side location, start your day by heading downthe short Freina piste down into the center of Selva and take your pick between heading up the Costabella chairlift for access to Alta Badia including Covara & Colfosco, and La Villa and or head up the Ciampinoi gondola for access to Ortisei, Alpe d'Suisi and Val di Fassa.

You are also just a short walk from the center of Selva Val Gardena, where you can find plenty of lively bars, a range of shops and the ice rink.

Soothing spa and relaxation

After a day of alpine adventures, return back to the hotel and enjoy a moment of peace in the spa area. Featuring an indoor pool heated to a lovely 31 degrees, a jacuzzi, and a variety of different saunas - relax in the Finnish sauna, soothe any aches in the infrared sauna or unwind in the Turkish steam bath. Selva is the best known and highest of Val Gardena’s close-set group of villages, which also include Ortisei and Santa Cristina. Val Gardena is part of the expansive Dolomiti Superski area and topping the list of reasons to visit the Dolomites, or ‘Pale Mountains’, is its status as a UNESCO world heritage site - Selva has some striking views of the Sassolungo massif and Puez mountains on either side. Named “Sëlva” by its Ladin speaking locals (the name apparently comes from the Ladin word for wood) or “...
The nursery slopes are close to town and there’s a nice collection of blues towards one side of Piz Seteur and at Plan de Gralba (it’s worth mastering the bus timetable when going onto Plan de Gralba as taking the mountain route can land a beginner on some rather tricky reds). There are a number of ski school options available as well as a Fun Park for the younger-hearted. Just by looking at the piste map you can see the intermediate-friendly nature of the skiing here. For those re-discovering their ski leg...
Italian resorts don’t tend to be overly wild when it comes to après ski but with 20 bars, 45 restaurants and 2 main clubs Selva does rather well... If you’ve never had the iconic Bombardino beverage, this is a good place to sample one! Bar Saltos is a good foodie spot with a sometimes themed menu and music scene for later on. La Stua, near the Costabella ski lift, is great for après ski with a sunny terrace and live music. By the Dantercepies, Panorama does some hearty dishes, perfect before the final run...
