Overview: hotel description: Hotel Plattenhof description

Run by the Schneider family since they built the place back in 1965, Hotel Plattenhof has plenty of hints to its history throughout. Antiques fill the nooks and crannies, from farmhouse furniture to historic nicknacks – just one way the family have tried to celebrate the hotel’s roots and bring you that authentic Vorarlberg charm. When it comes to your room though, you’ll find things are feeling pretty modern. Alpine in feel, but sporting some contemporary furnishings and style, they’re looking rather smart.

With slopes-a-plenty to the north and gondolas up the Rüfikopf opposite, there’s plenty of skiing to be done from Lech. Fortunately, whichever direction you pick, you won’t have to walk far from Plattenhof before hopping on the lifts – the Rüfikopf and Bergbahn Lech-Oberlech stations are both about 10 minutes away on foot. It’s possible to ski right back to the hotel at the end of the day too. From the northern face, you can make your way across to the Hinterweis blue run and from there it’s an easy swoosh down to the Plattenhof’s doors.

When you’re back, the hotel boasts a rather large spa area, with some varied ways for you to unwind. Whether you like things toasty or you really want to chill out, there are saunas and steam rooms or an ice fountain and brine grotto for relaxing whichever way suits you. Or you could always head to the pool, which is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows – which not only means you can enjoy the sun while you swim, but taking a dip feels especially warm and relaxing when you can look out on the snowy landscape mid-dip.

Known as one of the classic ski resorts, Lech is part of the ‘Best of the Alps’ group. Also crowned 2004’s Prettiest Village in Europe, it oozes traditional alpine charm with the bonus of a world-class ski area and some of the best snow in the Alps. The resort’s superior status in the skiing world has made it a favourite of the rich and Royal for decades – Princess Di used to ski here and sharing a chairlift with Tom Cruise or Vladimir Putin is a real possibility... The uber-posh town has an exclusive feel,...
This is famously the setting of the hilarious skiing scene in ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’, although you won’t have any Bridget-like disasters on the piste if you take advantage of the excellent instruction and beginner slopes on offer. You’ll find some lovely nursery slopes behind the village church (you can’t miss it) and up around Oberlech to practice on until you feel confident enough to take the Schlegelkpof and explore some brilliant gentle terrain for skiers and snowboarders. With oodles of...
Jägertee (rum, black tea and spices) is the local’s drink of choice, making it a must-try when you’re back from the slopes. Most of the nightlife here reflects Lech’s status as a first class resort, with venues emitting high-end and exclusive feel. While it doesn’t have the same legendary reputation as the après in neighbouring St Anton, you can still find a brilliant variety of venues offering a mix of the traditional and contemporary – chop and change between traditional tea dances and late night clubbi...
