Overview: hotel description: Hotel Petit Prince description

The Petit Prince has a prime location – just a minute from the slopes and a couple of minutes from the lift. And it's surrounded by top-notch views of the mountains and valley, so grab a drink from the bar and head out to the terrace to take it all in.

Inside, it’s a case of snug meets chic. The rooms and restaurant are simple and modern, letting the scenery outside do the talking. Then the bar and lounge are done up with bold prints and bright fabrics, with plenty of sofas where you can put your feet up by the fire. For a little more action, grab a cue for a few games of pool.

The hotel’s got a reputation for good food too, from the buffet breakfasts to the set-menu evening meals – which are a mix of French and Scandinavian dishes, plus international favourites.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d'Huez is very accessible from Grenoble or Chambery airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain. It is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as "...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936, and with the culmination of around 20 Million Euros of improvements due to come to fruition for 2021, there is a huge ski area to be explored. With a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers. There are plenty of wide-open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the bl...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe. It combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithy’s has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex food to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France, O’Sharkey’s is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’Huez has all of the usual culinary delights you’d expect in the mountains. To sample some traditional French food, ...

"Second stay in the Petit Prince"

Snowboarder Mike, Kent
3/ out of 5
I’d stayed in this hotel before and like it, it’s very clean and the rooms are well appointed. There’s a good chill out zone with a fireplace, pool table and sofas. It’s also very close to the chairlift you take to get onto the mountain (you can walk out the front door, ski down a little run for about 10 yards, take the chairlift up to the top and ski down to the resort in about 15 minutes). The food was a bit hit and miss and to be fair it was the last time I stayed. When you’ve done a full day on the slopes you want a decent meal when you return at the end of the day. From the hotel it takes about a 5 minute walk to get to the nearest bar and there’s also a little shop about 5 minutes away, so it’s a pretty good location.

"Good hotel all round"

Brian Shuttleworth, Bath

The hotel was very good, staff very friendly and food excellent! There wasn’t a massive choice but you could usually ask for more if you wanted it. The drinks were a bit expensive but I guess that’s not unusual for ski hotels. I was staying here with my partner and a friend, I thought I’d booked 2 separate rooms but we ended up in a triple which wasn’t ideal... the staff were very helpful in finding us new rooms but we then ended up quite far away from each other. It wasn’t too bad and the rooms were good, the shower and bathrooms were quite nice and the room size wasn’t massive but they were OK to hang your kit up. You could leave your boots in a room as you came in. The hotel also had a ski hire shop which was useful as if something didnt fit you could get it changed really easily. In order to get to the skiing, you could catch a bus from about 100 yards down the road which took you to the main ski area and stopped off in other places on the way if you needed the shops or anything. You can ski back which was fairly easy or also walk to the chairlift although the ski down from there was quite steep and narrow.
