Overview: hotel description: Hotel-Pension Hannes description

With its wooden balconies, frescoed walls and friendly, personal service, the Hannes is the kind of family-run guesthouse that Austria’s famous for. It’s set in a peaceful part of the village near the lifts, so you’ll be up on the mountain in no time – then when you’re done skiing, you can cruise back to within metres of the front door.

After a session on the slopes, spend your time in the hotel bar and swap ski stories while sipping your favourite après tipple. Or do as the locals do and round off the day in the sauna and steam room.

Each day starts with a buffet breakfast, where you can load your plate with sliced meats, cheeses, fresh bread and scrambled eggs. Then in the evenings, enjoy traditional, fill-your-boots fare from dumpling stews to crispy schnitzels – just the thing after you’ve been racking up the ski miles.

"Lovely place"

The hotel and the people were very hospitable. The rooms weren’t huge but were spacious with Austrian twin beds and a little sofa – they were very clean, it’s a family run hotel and they were very proud of how well they kept everything. Most of the rooms had balconies which was really nice as you could nip to the supermarket and bring up a bottle of wine to enjoy after skiing. I’m gluten free and they accommodated for me very well, the evening meal was a selection of 3 dishes to choose between. Choosing at breakfast suits some more than others but it’s what they do in a lot of ski hotels. Breakfast was a buffet so you weren’t restricted on how much you could eat. If you turn right outside the hotel there’s a large-ish supermarket. The walk to the slopes isn’t the shortest but it’s not difficult either as it’s all on pavements. You could cross the road to a horrible Pomer lift but we opted for the walk. Some people rented ski lockers near the lift to make the walk easier. I would probably go back here again, it’s really reasonable for what it costs.
