Overview: hotel description: Hotel Oswald description

Hotel Oswald is one of Selva's most historic hotels. Once considered the best hotel in Dolomites, you can expect a grand place with elegant interiors. Rooms have a traditional, mountain style and the gourmet restaurant is a great place to unwind at the end of the day. They serve up local produce so you can try lots of regional dishes - don't miss the weekly Tyrolean theme night.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. It's in the centre of Selva so everything's within walking distance. The Ciampinoi gondola is only 350 metres from the door and there's a free shuttle to get you there in the morning. When you get back, try and get some time in the spa - there's nothing better than soothing tired legs in the whirlpool or steam room.

Transfer time: approx. 3 hours by coach from Innsbruck airport.

Selva is the best known and highest of Val Gardena’s close-set group of villages, which also include Ortisei and Santa Cristina. Val Gardena is part of the expansive Dolomiti Superski area and topping the list of reasons to visit the Dolomites, or ‘Pale Mountains’, is its status as a UNESCO world heritage site - Selva has some striking views of the Sassolungo massif and Puez mountains on either side. Named “Sëlva” by its Ladin speaking locals (the name apparently comes from the Ladin word for wood) or “...
The nursery slopes are close to town and there’s a nice collection of blues towards one side of Piz Seteur and at Plan de Gralba (it’s worth mastering the bus timetable when going onto Plan de Gralba as taking the mountain route can land a beginner on some rather tricky reds). There are a number of ski school options available as well as a Fun Park for the younger-hearted. Just by looking at the piste map you can see the intermediate-friendly nature of the skiing here. For those re-discovering their ski leg...
Italian resorts don’t tend to be overly wild when it comes to après ski but with 20 bars, 45 restaurants and 2 main clubs Selva does rather well... If you’ve never had the iconic Bombardino beverage, this is a good place to sample one! Bar Saltos is a good foodie spot with a sometimes themed menu and music scene for later on. La Stua, near the Costabella ski lift, is great for après ski with a sunny terrace and live music. By the Dantercepies, Panorama does some hearty dishes, perfect before the final run...

"We had an amazing time!"

Pamela
5/ out of 5
The hotel was very nice. The staff were very friendly. The kids thought it was too posh for them, I think they fell in love with a previous hotel in Austria that we went to. We had an amazing time though, fantastic resort, couldn’t rate it highly enough. The food and catering were amazing, almost too much food. The location was good, it was right in the middle of Selva. The access to skiing wasn’t the easiest, but equally wasn’t that complicated. You either traipse up the hill with your skis, or there was a ski bus that went past but that tended to be pretty crowded by the time it got to the hotel (bus stop was literally right outside). The hotel did also run it’s own minibus on a first come first served basis which worked fine. It just ran up to the lifts and back again. In the evenings we tended just to walk back, or there was a route you could come back through the town and then there was a very short walk across the road. So it wasn’t the easiest access to the slopes but it wasn’t the hardest either.
