Overview: hotel description: Hotel La Pineta description

The La Pineta is located in a quiet area of Selva, a 10-minute walk from the centre. There's also a ski bus stop 4 minutes away, with a regular service that'll take you to both the ciampinoi or dantercepies gondola – slope-swooshing here we come.

Back at the hotel, there's a family-run feel with traditional rooms done up with natural wood and pops of red and green. Downstairs, you can sip an après tipple in the Tyrolean-style bar. And in the restaurant, you're treated to tasty local dishes each evening.

Selva is the best known and highest of Val Gardena’s close-set group of villages, which also include Ortisei and Santa Cristina. Val Gardena is part of the expansive Dolomiti Superski area and topping the list of reasons to visit the Dolomites, or ‘Pale Mountains’, is its status as a UNESCO world heritage site - Selva has some striking views of the Sassolungo massif and Puez mountains on either side. Named “Sëlva” by its Ladin speaking locals (the name apparently comes from the Ladin word for wood) or “...
The nursery slopes are close to town and there’s a nice collection of blues towards one side of Piz Seteur and at Plan de Gralba (it’s worth mastering the bus timetable when going onto Plan de Gralba as taking the mountain route can land a beginner on some rather tricky reds). There are a number of ski school options available as well as a Fun Park for the younger-hearted. Just by looking at the piste map you can see the intermediate-friendly nature of the skiing here. For those re-discovering their ski leg...
Italian resorts don’t tend to be overly wild when it comes to après ski but with 20 bars, 45 restaurants and 2 main clubs Selva does rather well... If you’ve never had the iconic Bombardino beverage, this is a good place to sample one! Bar Saltos is a good foodie spot with a sometimes themed menu and music scene for later on. La Stua, near the Costabella ski lift, is great for après ski with a sunny terrace and live music. By the Dantercepies, Panorama does some hearty dishes, perfect before the final run...

"Great food and service"

The Dean Family, Exeter
4/ out of 5
We had a really good week here, the best bits were the food and the service. The food wasn’t Italian as I know it, it was Tyrolean so slightly Austrian. They kept us well fed and breakfasts were really good. The rooms were spacious although they did smell of smoke – I don’t know if it was previous guests or the cleaners but it wasn’t very pleasant. The other thing was that the hotel’s right on the outer edge of the town so it was quite a long trek to the nursery slopes and ski shop (at least half an hour in ski boots) which isn’t ideal when you have children. One thing that did worry me a little was that you have to hang your room keys up by the reception, which wasn’t always manned. The hotel had a small bar but we didn’t use it, the whole place was very quiet which we liked about it. There’s also a really good ski room with a drying rack for boots.
