· 4 minute's walk to the resort centre · 10 minutes' walk to the Campo Smith gondola, nursery slopes and ski school meeting point · opposite the ski bus stop
If you’re after a simple stay, La Betulla’s just the ticket. It’s got a real traditional feel with lots of wood inside and out, and it’s only a short stroll from Bardonecchia’s centre, so you can easily get out to explore the rest of the resort. Plus, it’s only 10 minutes’ walk to the lifts, or if you want to save your legs for the slopes, jump on the free ski bus from the stop opposite the hotel.
After a day on the mountain, things are easy-going here. Sink into a sofa and share the day’s highlights, or kick off a pool tournament in the games room. There’s also a sun terrace if you fancy a cold drink of something out in the fresh air.
And you’re sorted when it comes to food – fuel up for the day at the breakfast buffet and load your plate with pancakes, eggs and bacon. For your evening meal, you’ll tuck into four courses of classic Italian dishes. If you fancy fuss-free lunches too, you can upgrade to full board and have a packed lunch ready for whenever you get peckish up on the pistes.

Once a market town and now a trendy snowsports destination, Bardo has lovely forest trails, loads of wide, unpopulated slopes for learners and intermediates and snowboard terrain that featured in the 2006 Olympics. Eating out doesn’t have the eye-watering pricetag of other resorts and with superb transport links and a sunny location, this is one of Italy’s top resorts.
