Rooms were basic but we knew that anyway. it was fine. Good evening entertainment, they did a quiz night one evening – Brillinat holiday would happily go back next year. The hotel was perfectly fine and I would give it 5* (for us) only because it was perfect for what we needed and expected… However it is not a 5* hotel. Our stay was perfect, in fact the best ski holiday I have ever had. I would say that it is not great for parties, but for skiing it is absolutely perfect! It i... + more

The location of the Aiguille Rouge is excellent, right on the slopes: you step out of the boot room and onto the slope and at the end of the day, you ski down to a little travellator which brings you back – any ability could do it. Food was excellent, the hotel has a large buffet restaurant and everything the... + more

L’Aguille Rouge is a nice hotel overall. The best things were the location and food - It’s pretty much ski in, ski out for all levels and considering it’s a 2 star hotel, the meals were definitely of 4 star standard. It was all French food (a lot of French people seemed to stay there) and I really enjoyed it... + more

We had a very, very good week. The food was excellent, I was really impressed as the standard was quite high. They did buffets but with quite an extensive menu that varied every night. That was probably the best part of our stay. The building itself is fairly old, although we knew this before we went. They ... + more

Les Arcs came to be in 1968 after a group of ski instructors and architects dreamt up a resort with all the perks of a village but a mountainside location. It grew into one of the largest, most incredible ski areas in the Alps. The closest airport is Chambery with a transfer time of a couple of hours, plus transport links from Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble. Present-day Les Arcs consists of four main purpose built villages. The original resort, Arc 1600, was created for doorstep skiing and is linked by a funicular ...
As you'd expect from one of the biggest ski areas on the planet, there's everything from gorgeous tree-lined runs to wild, white-knuckle off-piste. For beginners, each of the 3 main Arcs has 'ski tranquille' zone, and the wide beginner runs leading to the resort have gentle gradients perfect for practising. Local instructors are on hand to show you the ropes, with ski schools based in each of the main villages (1800 has the most). There are magic carpet lifts at 1800 and 2000 - an easy way for newbies to get up ...
If you're looking for a party, Arc 1800 is the place to be. With heaps of watering holes like the Red Hot Saloon (or the 'Red Bar' to use local lingo), Benji's and La Folie Douce. If you're looking for more of a French-style après spot, Ambiente Cafe has a really cool atmosphere and lots of nice cocktails (happy hour usually starts at 4) while Le club 1950 your venue if you're looking to party into the wee hours. Arc 1600's a little quieter but for good music and a scenic terrace check out Les 2 Têtes. In te...

It is ski in/ski out and the snow was amazing whilst we were there. I would say the bedrooms are quite small (especially for me and my boys – all over 6ft). This was our 2nd stay at the hotel and we found it absolutely perfect. We skied all day and never really left the hotel in the evening. The bar was great fun and there was a quiz night which was great. The food was not as good as previous years but fine. The location was great. The ski hire shop we used was across the road and the generally in a good location. It was also really handy to have a bus stop right near the hotel, as one of the days the snow was so thick that we decided to catch the coach across to other resorts.

"Great position on the slopes"

The location of the Aiguille Rouge is excellent, right on the slopes: you step out of the boot room and onto the slope and at the end of the day, you ski down to a little travellator which brings you back – any ability could do it. Food was excellent, the hotel has a large buffet restaurant and everything they laid out was superb. We stayed here as a mixed group and it was great, it’s fairly family orientated and there were quite a few families here. They laid on entertainment every evening (like a disco one night). I shared a room with two other men and our room was very very small, really a twin room with 3 beds squeezed in... there wasn’t much room to put stuff so we had to shove things under the beds and we were tripping over each other a bit. It wasn’t a problem for us, but there’s a disco across the road from one side of the hotel which was quite noisy sometimes, didn’t bother us but if you’re a light sleeper you might be able to request a room on the other side.

"Very high standard of food"

L’Aguille Rouge is a nice hotel overall. The best things were the location and food - It’s pretty much ski in, ski out for all levels and considering it’s a 2 star hotel, the meals were definitely of 4 star standard. It was all French food (a lot of French people seemed to stay there) and I really enjoyed it. The actual accommodation was fairly basic. My room didn’t have any individual heating so it was quite cold. I also had some trouble checking in but it was sorted out in the end. One side of the hotel had very good views, while the other didn’t (which is the side I was on). There’s also a fairly busy pub opposite and because my room was lower down I had quite a lot of noise from it. It’s an upside-down hotel – I was on floor 9 which was the bottom, while floors 1 and 2 are at the top. It might be worth trying to get a higher floor to avoid the noise.

"Very impressed with the food"

We had a very, very good week. The food was excellent, I was really impressed as the standard was quite high. They did buffets but with quite an extensive menu that varied every night. That was probably the best part of our stay. The building itself is fairly old, although we knew this before we went. They had lots of entertainment in the hotel, although that wasn’t really the reason we chose it. It seemed to be more of a family hotel, although there weren’t many families for the week we were there. During school holidays it would have been quite different. The only issue – and I think everyone else says the same thing – was that the WiFi was pretty poor. You could only access it in the reception area and you had to log on every time, they didn’t seem to have enough bandwidth either. Getting around from the location in Arc 2000 was easy and you could ski from the door and get the lift to the newer resort of 1950. Overall it fitted the bill for what we were looking for.
