Converted from Archduke Johann of Austria’s hunting lodge in the 19th century, this traditionally styled hotel is set in its very own mountain valley, miles away from civilisation – all you will hear in the background is the sound of a thundering waterfall. Vehicles are banned so segways are provided for guests to get about the grounds. Lederhosen-clad iPads, replete with specially designed hotel apps, will be issued to you on arrival so that if you want to be totally independent, you can. Otherwise the Blumschiens (owners for four generations) are there to answer all your questions, including some fairly riveting local history that Papa Blumschien will be more than happy to fill you in on. The rooms, strewn across the mountain valley in five separate houses, are beautifully styled with hand-crafted wooden furniture and balconies overlooking the Alps. Guests normally opt for half-board and tend to find lunch elsewhere. Food is Austrian with a twist; spinach dumplings and pork involtini with goat’s cheese, and caramelised pancakes so scrumptious that even a certain Jude Law has praised them. The spa offers a flurry of relaxing treatments – from anti-aging massages to lymphatic drainage and even a goat’s milk bath. Emerge from the whole experience of staying here feeling youthful and energised. (From: Country & Town House, "Peak Perfection")
