Overview: hotel description: Hotel Fahrenheit 7 Val Thorens description

The Fahrenheit 7 has a perfect blend of modern and vintage style, with an Art Deco theme, jewel tones and plush furnishings. It's in a brilliant location, with ski-in, ski-out access from the terrace outside the ski room. It’s a short ski down to the main lifts, including the Funitel Peclet gondola, and the nursery slopes – or you can walk if you’re not yet comfy on skis. If you head out of the front of the hotel, it’s just a couple of minutes’ walk to the indoor shopping galleries, bars and restaurants in the resort centre.

Your day starts with breakfast in La Rotisserie restaurant. Each table is furnished with a basket of bread and pastries, and you can also fill up your plate with a selection from the continental buffet, which includes cereal, yoghurt, pancakes, scones, meat, cheese and fruit. If you need an extra caffeine boost before hitting the slopes, there's free coffee on hand in the ski room.

In the evening, you can dine from the à la carte menu here or try the hotel’s second restaurant, Le Zinc, where you can savour a gooey pot of fondue, served with bread, salad and charcuterie.

End the day with a few drinks in the hotel bar and lounge, or relaxing by the open fire in the lobby bar. If you prefer a more indulgent kind of après, take a trip to the wellness area and make the most of the sauna, hammam and ice fountain.

While it's a place for people who, above all else, love to ski, you'll also find some of the country's best après including the legendary Folie Douce, as well as weird and wonderful activities like the 1300m Tyrolienne zip wire. At the summit of the largest ski area in the world and bordering the Vanoise National Park, this is a spectacular place to ski and board. The après ski here easily rivals other top resorts in the Alps. Another place to party is Bar 360 at the end of the blue Moraine run, which always has live music and cheaper drinks. Back in town, Rue de Gebroulaz is a hub of lively bars where O'Connells is the local Irish pub. The Frog and Roastbeef is a long-time favourite of Brits. L'Eclipse on Galerie Caro...
