In France's Rhone Alp region, Val d'Isere (pronounced: val de saire/sare/ser or val d sere) is widely thought of as one of the most brilliant and beautiful ski areas in the world. In keeping with the giddyingly gorgeous surroundings, the resort itself is one of France's prettiest - a huddle alpine hamlets formed from cosy wood and stone chalets. With the original village dating back to the 13th century and a Christmas-card-worthy church steeple at its centre, there’s alpine charm by the bucket load. While dre...
Skiers in Val d'Isere are schussing in the tracks of some of the world's greatest skiers. Olympic medallists Marielle and Christine Goitschel learned to ski here, not to mention triple gold winner Jean-Claude Killy, after whom the wider ski area is named. As an indication of this place's premier status - the resort has hosted championships including the 1992 Olympics, the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2009 and World Cup events every December. If some of the best skiers in history have learned here, begi...
Famed for its après ski, there's no chance of a dull evening in Val. Living up to its name, you'll experience ‘sweet madness' at the original Le Folie Douce, which brings you some of the best après ski in Europe - including dancers, musicians, raining champagne and much more... Once that closes, Dicks T Bar's a local legend, staying open into the early hours each night. Bananas is another firm favourite, much loved for its crafty cocktails and slope-side location. "Ignore the bad reviews on google!"

Best holiday we have ever been on! It was awesome. The rooms were very spacious and always kept clean. The childcare facilities were amazing! The food was incredible! We preferred choosing our own meals in the morning. Good portions! Afternoon tea at 4pm set us up for dinner aswell. I’m still dreaming over the truffle cauliflower soup! The kids separate dinner times was a godsend too! We were a bit lazy so we got the bus most times. But you can just walk up the road. Perfect location! We were let down by the transfers but out of our control. Other than that it was the best holiday! Ignore the bad reviews on google!

It was great! The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. They were and caring, especially towards the children. The rooms are a bit dated. But no issues. The food was amazing. We were pleasantly surprised. The level was a lot higher than what we were expecting. Buffet for breakfast, pre order set menu for dinner. Really straightforward. Bus stops right outside and its not far to walk either. 3.5 /4 Would recommend this hotel for the service and care towards the children. The listening-in service was really good too! Rooms the only thing to let it down.

"Staff were brilliant!"

Room had a bunk bed that was not suitable for my 3 year old, so they had to use a cot bed which was not ideal. But the hotel itself was very nice! The food was really nice! We would have 3 choice at dinner and we had to decide what we wanted in the morning. We preferred this rather than a buffet style set up. It was ok, not amazing! You had to walk up a hill for 5 minutes. You could get buses in either direction which was easier to get to the ski. We would have gone back this year if they continued with the childcare. But they have now stopped this which is a shame. I would avoid French school holidays aswell as UK one. Because of traffic.

The care from the staff is great, childcare is first class. However, the hotel itself was very poor, tiny and very full. And most children they ever had. No room to sit. No space in common area. Food was incredible was really good! no complaints. Amazing food for the children, general care childcare was first class. Access to skiing was great, short walk.

Staff were excellent and very responsive and very flexible, listened well. Food was excellent, good choices. 3 different options and decent quality wine. Great location for the slopes and the town. Centre of town, good access. Get up early to beat the lift queues on peak dates

"A good week in Val"

Cholty, Hampshire

We had a good week! It’s all about the snow and we had a good amount of that. The Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie was fine, bedrooms were basic but that’s what you get in 3 star accommodation. The service was superb – they couldn’t do enough for you and we found the food to be very good. Location was fantastic, smack bang in the middle of Val d’Isere. Lots of children running around, it’s very much a chalet hotel for families.
