I loved this hotel – it has mixed reviews, with some people saying it’s a bit dingy but it’s what I call a traditional hotel. The rooms are quite dated but you’re only there to sleep. Overview: hotel description: Hotel Del Viale description

Dating back over 100 years, the Del Viale has traditional looks, with its open fireplace and antique furniture dotted here and there. There’s a no-frills feel up in the bedrooms, but you’re here to ski – and with a free minibus to and from the lifts, hitting the piste is super simple.

The hotel’s been family-run for generations, so you can expect friendly down-to-earth service from the moment you arrive. Mealtimes are all about classic Italian dishes, with tasty 4-course evening meals to fill you up after a day on the slopes.

There isn’t a long list when it comes to extras. The hotel bar is on hand when it comes to après, so pull up a stool and order a glass of your fave post-ski tipple.

Situated on the North-Western corner of Italy and rubbing shoulders with France and Switzerland, Courmayeur is one of the more popular resorts in the Aosta Valley. Famously founded as a spa town in the 17th Century for its natural outlets of pure alpine water, it became a top destination for the mountaineering community around the 19th century and has maintained its traditional image and beauty ever since. With a car-free village centre, this stylish, family-friendly resort is perfect for anyone who wants a c...
Courmayeur has two main areas: the Chécrouit-Val Veny is by far the biggest, serviced by a cable car from Plan Chérouit, a gondola in Dolonne and a cable car in Entrèves for those staying out of town. The Mont Blanc lift network makes up the second area, which includes the legendary Vallee Blanche. The two ski schools (Societa Guide Alpine Courmayeur and Scuola di Sci) maintain a solid reputation intuition and with a number of blues on either side of the ridge, beginners can experience a variety of terrain....
While this is the ski destination for the natives of Turin and Milan, with shopping to match their tastes including the likes of Cartier and Hermes, this isn’t to say the town is only for the elite. Courmayeur is the perfect place to relax in an armchair with a cocktail and canapés in bars like Prive. Bar Americano is perfect for late-night snacking on crepes, sandwiches and burgers. Roma is also a popular destination – in the past, they’ve given out free canapés with drinks. Courmayeur is a hub of Itali...

"It was clean, everything worked and staff were really friendly and helpful. "

It was clean, tidy and there was nothing untoward. It felt sort of old school and antiquated I guess, but that was fine for us. Some of the décor was out of the 80’s and 90’s, which again didn’t bother us, but some people might find it a bit strange I guess. The food was ok, it could be a little bit random at times with some of the options and combinations, but there was enough of it. They were great with the kids and very accommodating. If they just wanted a bowl of pasta, then they gave them a bowl of tomato pasta, if they didn’t fancy what was on the menu, so that was really great from that point of view. There was a decent choice of food and options for breakfast too. It was a good location, a five minute walk into town and you could walk to the lifts. They did a bus in the morning but more often than not we just walked. I’d say it was about roughly a 10min walk to the lifts – 5mins to get into the centre of town and then another 5min walk to the lifts.

"Exactly as it was described."

I loved this hotel – it has mixed reviews, with some people saying it’s a bit dingy but it’s what I call a traditional hotel. The rooms are quite dated but you’re only there to sleep. From the waitressing staff to the minibus they do to the slopes, everyone was so obliging. The owner isn’t aloof, but is very quiet and we told him his staff were a credit to him. The food was absolutely fine, very traditional. My husband doesn’t eat red meat and didn’t get fantastic options but it wasn’t a problem. They take you to the slopes at set times and you had to make your own way if you wanted to go into town but it only took 5 minutes.

"V. good hotel - booked several times"

The Hotel del Viale is your traditional Courmayer family-run hotel and I’ve booked holidays here several times. The staff have always been very friendly and as I’ve stayed here for family holidays, lads holidays and just with my sons, I’d recommend it for all kinds of holiday. The rooms are spacious as doubles but quite tight if you get a triple (as they basically put an extra bed in a double). They’re all en-suites as far as I know. A minibus takes you to the main gondola - every morning and evening they collect you and drop you off. It’s probably a five minute walk to the centre of town.
