Arinsal may remain one of Europe’s most underrated ski destinations, but year on year it closes the gap on the larger resorts. With some of the sunniest skiing in Europe, incredible duty free shopping and dining and a massive range of off slope activities, Arinsal is a more than viable alternative, especially during the busiest weeks of the season.

Shedding its reputation as the cheap and cheerful ski option, Arinsal (and the entire Vallord ski area) is now ready to play with the big boys. Whilst it may not be able to compete like for like with the French Alps in terms of vertical, there’s ample terrain for a week’s trip now the ski area has been increased by the lift link to Pal and the inclusion of the nearby Ordino-Arcalis on the same pass. And as with any trip to tax friendly Andorra you’ll end up more than impressed with the amount you’ll save thr...
There’s a great variety of terrain throughout Vallnord, and skiers of all abilities and disciplines are well catered for. The area at the top of the La Massana gondola in Pal is the perfect place for beginners to start getting to grips with the snow. The three short drag lifts service gentle green runs which are left unmolested by more experienced skiers. There is also a ‘snow garden’ which will keep youngsters entertained, whilst the many slope side restaurants allow for a well-earned break- the tapas at t...
Arinsal comes alive in the evenings, and with the regions strong Basque influences the locals certainly know how to party- duty free prices mean you won’t be breaking the bank either. There is a wide selection of bars also serving good food if you enjoy settling in for the evening. Ciscos’ restaurant serves tex mex style dishes- their Cajun mango chicken is delicious- and the downstairs bar is popular with English tourists and the ex-pat community. Quo Vadis is a more informal affair- a lively après ski bar...

"Great for our group ski holiday"

Location - Absolutely Excellent - Could not have been better as it is less than a 2 minute walk to the ski-lift the bars and clubs. We stayed for a week and the whole process of getting ready for dinner and clubs and apre-ski means everything is on your door-step. Very handy. The rooms are very warm (in fact maybe too warm for some) and although I am used to more lavish hotels, i would easily trade the luxury for the location where this hotel is situated. Rooms are clean and basic but what more do you need if you are skiing most of the day and then out of your rooms for apre-ski and dinner? Hotel - Very lively Bar downstairs which is in the hub of the entertaintment area so its always got something going on Food was ok - I would emphasise it is not anywhere near michelin star but it did the job for our 1 week stay Staff extremely friendly and helpful - Definitely a group booking sort of hotel.

We had a good week, the location is really good, right next to the main lift and the town is fairly compact so you can get to everywhere easily on foot. Inside the hotel is fairly basic, we had a room at the back and there was a stream behind the building which was fairly noisy, so I wouldn’t like to say at the back again, but otherwise the room was fine and as we expected. The rest of the hotel had everything you would need. Our holiday was half board but we didn’t eat there every night because it is so cheap to eat out (there’s one restaurant opposite the main lift that we really liked).

"Lovely views, good menu, close to slopes"

We had a very good time in the Hotel Comapedrosa and were very satisfied, I couldn’t fault it. Everything was comfortable and well laid out with a nice bar area. We had lovely views from our room and everything was cleaned and changed every day. We also had a bath which was really nice after a day of hard skiing! It’s useful to note that we stayed in the back of the hotel looking over the ski slopes, if you have a room in the front of the hotel looking over the village you don’t get a bath, so you need to request a room at the back if it’s important that you have one. We had all inclusive and there’s a good menu, a lot of British food but also some local cuisine and a buffet breakfast with a selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast, croissants, juice, rolls, compotes and tea and coffee. It’s very handy from the ski slopes (literally 2 minutes) and is in the main little village which has a good nightlife.

"Characterful ski hotel, not posh but not scruffy"

The Comapedrosa is older accommodation with more character; I remember on the wall they had early black and white photos of the area and the hotel building was still there back then, it was really interesting to see. The facilities were fine, they had a bar and a dining area which was average but perfectly clean and functional. The buffet where you have your breakfast and evening meal was fine. The meal area isn’t rough but it’s not a posh area where you feel like you’re in a fancy hotel, people can come in wearing their ski clothes. Upstairs is more cosy, there’s a bar and lounge area with comfy chairs where you can relax, and an upright pool table. The bar and lounge have TV screens and they also had live music where the guy got up and played with the band, it’s a nice lively place with very friendly bar staff. The rooms are not the most spacious but they’re perfectly fine, and at the end of the day you’re just there to crash out. Ours were perfectly functional and I would say average to above average in terms of decor. The hotel is quite convenient to the slopes and they’ve got their own set of lockers under the hotel so it’s only a minutes’ walk to the ski lifts. It’s in the town so there are bars all around and the whole place is completely walkable. There is a really good Irish bar literally a stone’s throw across the road which we enjoyed, and a mini supermarket about 3 doors down which you can pick up basics from. If you go further up the hill it gets more lively, but because the hotel is at the other end, the area we stayed in was quiet and we didn’t have any problems with noise.

"Really good, family run, close to Gondola"

The Comapedrosa is really good, it’s like a family run place and is quite close to the gondola, literally within a few moments you’re there. The hotel itself is clean and warm; there were some noisy people who got a good talking to, which shows you that the owners obviously care about the people who stay there. Our room was nice but if you're going to sit in a hotel room in the evenings, make sure you take DVD’s as all the TV channels are in French and Spanish! The food wasn’t brilliant as I don’t really like foreign food and there was some stuff that I didn’t know what it was – but there was plenty of it and there wasn’t anything horrendous. The two owners were lovely and specifically made me an English breakfast which was really nice. I stayed here with my partner and would definitely recommend it to couples, it’s on the cheaper end of the scale but I can’t fault the service!
