Everything with the hotel was fine – I can’t really fault it! The room we had was fine and we were on half board (food was OK, not brilliant but then you get that with ski holidays). Zermatt belongs to Switzerland's Valais canton, which rubs shoulders with the Italian Alps. You'll find it surrounded by nearly a third of Europe's 4000m peaks and, most notably, right at the foot of the Matterhorn. Even if you haven't heard of this mountain, chances are you'd recognise it - national landmark of Switzerland, the inspiration for the Toblerone and a peak photographed more than any other. Besides the picturesque scenery, these mighty mountains come with a cool climate, ever-white glaciers and ...
There are 200km of runs in the local area alone and a massive 360km overall if you count the Matterhorn's Italian side. With Cervina, Zermatt forms the 'Matterhorn Ski Paradise' where SNO lovers of all abilities are blessed with high altitude terrain - and lots of it! Everyone's a winner in a ski area this big and brilliant. Still, if we had to pick where it shines, we'd say it's incredibly fantastic for intermediate and advanced level skiers and snowboarders. If you're a keen beginner, you'll love Zermatt,...
Zermatt has voted the world's best après ski resort by the World Snow Awards in the past, making it a wise choice if you want a whale of a time post-skiing. Sure – it doesn't come cheap, but you won't find better if you want quality. Across sixty bars and numerous nightclubs, you can relax, unwind and party through the night. Harry's Bar is the place to dance to cheesy pop and Papperla offers a pubby atmosphere, but you can't come to Zermatt without being tempted into the Hennu Stall (at the end of the Furi-Ze...

"I would highly recommend the Ambassador!"

A really great hotel. You’re very close to the centre, literally 3 minutes from the rail station. Despite this, the rooms were very quiet because Zermatt has no traffic, only electric cars, so we slept very well. Both the lift and bus are 3 minutes from the hotel, the Gornergrat Bahn lift goes all the way up the mountain and the bus brings you to another ski area. Our room had been recently redecorated with new furniture. If I was being really fussy I would say that the bathroom was on the small side, but overall there’s absolutely nothing that I could complain about. The whole place was very clean. Breakfasts were great (continental and English buffet). The staff, especially Ljubo, were so helpful bringing us the coffee and tea we wanted. We used the swimming pool and the sauna after skiing, the sauna was probably a little on the small side (room for 5-6 people) but it wasn’t ever busy so we didn’t have any problems. The hotel has a ski room where you can rent skis and boots; you just go there, pick up your equipment and set off to the slopes. The cost of rental is good and it was very convenient. Overall, highly recommended.

We all enjoyed staying here! The food was good and the staff in the restaurant were very friendly. We had a half board holiday and ate in the hotel, we ate out on the mountain one day but it was dead expensive so we didn’t eat out much. One of the things we really enjoyed was the dinners. All the food was great with lots of different things you wouldn’t usually choose... but was always lovely when it came. The staff were dead helpful with my mate’s wife as she couldn’t eat certain things – the chef would go away and cook a special dish for her and it was never a big deal to cater for her. We found the rooms clean and comfortable and the pool was nice too. Overall everything was good value for money. I know other people have moaned about the colour scheme of the rooms and said that the bathroom was dated but I don’t know what they’re bothered about, it was dead warm with loads of hot water and we didn’t need anything else. The Ambassador is quite handy for the lifts and things like that. For the slope access for the train it’s just around the corner about 5 minutes away. The Sunnegga Funicular is a bit more of a walk and to go up on the glacier you have to take a bus ride (which can get quite busy).

"Great hotel, loved the lobby"

The hotel was great! The reception area, spa and pool are all very beautifully designed, with really sleek Scandinavian design. You come into a really nice area when you walk in the hotel but when you come off the lift into the corridor to the bedrooms, everything is very dated and 70’s which was a little disappointing and our actual rooms didn’t really reflect the lobby and the rest of the hotel. Our room was spacious enough bit basic – the rest of the hotel was definitely 4* but not the room. It’s a ski holiday anyway and you don’t spend much time there at the end of the day, the beds were comfortable enough which is what’s important! Having a balcony was a nice bonus as we could sit out and relax which was good. The food was excellent with really good portion sizes – there wasn’t so much that you felt you’d overdone it by the end of the week. We had no problems with the location and it was very easy to get around, it’s a good point to make that although you’re very close to the lifts, bars and restaurants it’s very quiet and we had no issues with noise. I’d definitely recommend the Ambassador to friends and family.

We had a brilliant holiday and the hotel was really good. The rooms were a little bit dated and could do with being re-done (we had a double) but the foyer, swimming pool and sauna area were all very modern. We had morning and evening meals in the hotel, breakfast was reasonable (what you’d expect from a continental breakfast) and at dinner time the food was generally pretty good. The Ambassador’s location was fine for us as there are bus routes into the ski resort, with the buses very close by and easy to use. It has a good location in the town itself as well. I was staying here with my wife but there was a pretty mixed bag of people staying there, so I’d recommend it to anyone.

Everything with the hotel was fine – I can’t really fault it! The room we had was fine and we were on half board (food was OK, not brilliant but then you get that with ski holidays). They did a buffet in the mornings where you had hot choices as well, and in the evenings the meals were served to your table. The location is ideal as the bus literally stops on the street when you come up the ramp and out of the hotel; you’re also 5 minutes from the centre of everything in the town. If we were going back to Zermatt we probably would stay here again as it’s great for value for money.
