Voted as Austria's most beautiful village, this West Austrian ski resort is one of the larger in Tyrolean resorts. It was established in the 1930s and has been a popular ski destination with Brits ever since, particularly couples, families and anyone looking for a peaceful ski holiday. It's easy to understand why we can't get enough of this picturesque resort - the village is quiet and has maintained a lot of its traditional charm. It's pretty much car-free, with no main roads running through the centre. This re...
The local ski area is part of the famous Ski Juwel which connects to other resorts including Auffach, Kramsach, Niederau, Oberau, Reith im Alpbachtal and Thierbach. The area is best suited to beginners, with excellent facilities for learning to ski, including 3 nursery slopes for those who want to find their feet before getting out on the pistes. The longest piste is a 4km family run in Inneralpbach which is a great run to do as a family at the end of the week. Alpbach is a fantastic place to learn to ski a...
As the resort caters mainly for families and couples the après ski is fairly casual compared to other Austrian resorts. Despite this, you can still find somewhere where the atmosphere can be quite lively with a selection of bars, including two après ski inns to choose from. One of the most popular venues is Joe Salettl’s, an attractive sun terrace with amazing views to gaze at with a drink in hand. Jakober bar is the main attraction for many visitors and locals, with great drinks and live music. There are ...

"Everything was great."

The hotel and everything was great. The hotel requested that people dress nicely for their dinner attire, but lots of people didn’t pay attention to this so we relaxed a bit later on in the week to wear jeans and a smart top for example. It would be really helpful to have the option for formal/informal dinning. The staff were all very lovely and we were well looked after, they were very attentive. The pool was lovely with various seating areas and a bit of a lounge area upstairs. The spa area had two different saunas, one for adults only and another for not adults only, but we saw some things that we can’t unsee in the non-adults only sauna (especially with our 15yr old). I’m aware of these cultural approaches and we avoided the adult only ones for this reason, but it put me off using the facilities, especially doing it with a youth. They also had rules about what to wear in different locations, but it wasn’t policed by the staff – just a minor note to be aware of. Overall we had a great trip though! The food was good but we had our 15yr old child with us and they really made a meal of drawing out the 7-course meals. To do this every night became a little tiresome, so just be aware that it is quite extravagant. It was a formal waiter service dinning affair. You choose at breakfast time what you wanted for your courses in the evening (including vegetarian choices). It’s all very grand and they have the wine instructions etc. but it’s all a bit much for a full week. We didn’t make lunch at all as we had lunch on the mountain so I can’t comment on this. From a ski point of view, there was a nursery slope very close to the hotel, but more often than not it tended to be closed. Also the lessons etc. all tended to be up on the mountain so we didn’t really use that nursery slope much. There is a bus stop outside the hotel but as a beginner skier it would have been nice to have been told on the first day where to catch it, but otherwise it was fine. We found some ski lockers near the slopes as well which made it much easier than carrying the skis around.

We had a fantastic time with our 2 kids here. The Spa was unbelievable! You swim inside, go through some sliding doors, and then you’re outside swimming in the snow! Out of 5, the spa would get 5++! Rooms were ok, though not great – there was one weird thing: It sounded like one side of the hotel had mountain views and the other looked out onto the street, so we paid extra to have a mountain view, then cheaped out putting the kids in a standard room. But actually both sides had the same view so we needn’t have paid more. Ours was beautifully done and more spacious than theirs, which was pokey. Food was great and restaurant service generally fantastic… They couldn’t bring you food fast enough! Apart from the one night when the guy who served us had a day off – then it seemed like we’d dropped off the face of the earth and service was awful, we had to keep asking for food. The overall service was really good.
