Where is the Best Snow in Half Term

Half Term holiday & skiing Conditions

February half term has some of the best conditions for a ski holiday, and that’s a big part of why it’s such a popular time to travel. With the heavy snowfall of December, January and early February creating a good base, this middle to late part of the winter has some of the more reliable snow-cover of the whole winter. The longer days give on average more hours of skiing and better visibility, but we haven’t yet arrived in what are known as “spring skiing conditions” of March and April so there’s less risk of slushy days or thin snow cover. There are some bargains to be had but half term ski deals can only be considered “cheap” in the context of the average price for this week, which is much higher than average.

Half term ski holidays FAQ:

Packages for February half term sell like hot cakes, so if something catches your eye, there’SNO time like the present to get in touch and book it up. We’ll need things like guest names and contact details, then a deposit to secure the booking (or often the full balance if you’re booking after mid-November).

Half term is the most popular week of the ski season, so the earlier you book, the greater the choice of holidays. If you have your heart set on a particular accommodation or specific resort, the earlier you secure it, the better. For last minute planners, holidays are usually available right up until week before half term - you’ll just need to be more open minded about your travel, accommodation and destination.

Our half term ski deals include packages with savings on equipment hire, lift passes and more, giving you some tremendous bang for your buck.

  • Meribel – for a homely British atmosphere
  • La Rosiere – for quaint villages and family-friendly slopes
  • Sestriere – for lower prices and awesome pizzas
  • Soll – for Austrian charm and lots of skiing
  • St Anton – for challenging runs and legendry apres ski

February has a good track record of being the snowiest month in most ski resorts. While we can never guarantee the weather, you should find that there’s plenty of the white fluffy stuff to enjoy, especially in our most snow sure resorts.

Often the cheapest packages are for self-catered apartments, so you’ll have to add the cost of buying food and drink. An all inclusive package sometimes works out better overall value. Prices could also be lower if you opt to self-drive instead of fly. See our cheap ski page and search available holidays using your half term dates.

  • Extra capacity in childcare, kids clubs and ski schools
  • Fun family events like quizzes, live music and ski shows
  • Offers on family experiences such as husky sledding and snowmobile tours
  • Family ski tours with ski guides
  • Freestyle competitions for teens
  • Free child spaces (on select packages).

These are some of our favourites, find our top 10 here.

  • USA - Jackson Hole, Winter Park or Aspen often get their best snow in mid-February.
  • Canada - Mont Tremblant, Whistler and Lake Louise pull out all the stops to give adults and children alike a smashing time. There aren’t Canadian school holidays in February so you should enjoy a good amount of space on the slopes.

Italian resorts like Livigno and Sestriere tend to be less populated as Italian’s don’t have school holidays in February. They’re just as well-kitted out with fun activities as other popular half-term resorts. If you’re looking to head to France, La Rosiere is a quieter choice than the big-name resorts.

Chalet hotels and larger chalets have sociable dining and hotels with bars are a good place to make ski buddies. Pick a lively resort like Val d’Isère or Chamonix where there will be plenty of events and activities to get involved in.

Half term is all about families and we have all kinds of child-friendly ski holidays to choose from. Here are a few examples of places we love:

Our Luxury ski holidays page is brimming with exclusive, personalised chalet/hotel packages. Select your school holiday dates and feast your eyes upon their fine private facilities (spas & cinema rooms galore) and gourmet dining.

Sort the search results on this page from low to high to see the cheapest first. They’ll come with various levels of catering and transport. All-inclusive holidays are often the most economical for families as so much is covered in the main price.

Most packages are for 6 nights, but some last 3 or 4 nights, so enter your preferred dates and duration to see your options. Our ski weekends & short breaks page contains more advice on short ski breaks.

Yes - families and grownup groups alike love these! Filter the packages on this page to ‘all inclusive’ board basis and see a choice of fabulous all-in half term trips. Often childcare, ski lessons and unlimited food and drink are covered in the overall price.

Select your number of guests in our search bar to see what’s available, which could be sole-occupancy chalets, hotels or several apartments within the same complex. Our group ski holidays page has some handy tips on organising a group trip, or get in touch to chat through your arrangements.

All available half term ski holidays are displayed on this page, for the best prices you’ll find. Even when half term is a few days away, there’s still a good chance that you can be clipped into your skis by the weekend.

  • A catered chalet with sole-occupancy for uninterrupted quality time with your friends/family where most of your meals are cooked for you.
  • A hotel for shared facilities like pools, bars and kids clubs. Meals are usually served in an on-site restaurant where you can eat with your group and also socialise with other guests.
