The Grand really lives up to its name. It manages the tricky mix of luxury and a laid-back air really well. There's a unique log fire lantern hanging in reception which mesmerises you as you relax with a drink in the evenings. Alternatively, try the more traditional bar for a chilled out drink. You won't want to miss the Wine of the Valley restaurant, which features 1,500 (yes, 1,500) wines.

Head to the excellent spa for a bit of pampering and soak those legs in the hot tub or sauna so you're ready for another day on the pistes, There's also billiards to while away the hours with and Wi-Fi is available to keep in touch with the outside world. The staff are known for being friendly and welcoming, and the scenery and views from the hotel are simply stunning.

The Grand Hotel spa is quite special and has a refurb planned for 2018/19. Not only do they offer a sauna, bio sauna, hot tub and a steam room with aromatherapy, they also have a chromotherapy shower, vascular bath in cold water, gym and relax area with a herbal tea corner.

On top of that, the spa's experienced staff can offer beauty treatments for face and body, massages, wine baths and chocolate therapy! Sounds like our kind of spa!

Guests staying in the superior rooms get free access throughout the week, but guests in standard rooms would need to pay approx €12 per day. Alternatively, buy a weekly pass and it works out to be about €8 per day instead.

Delicious half board meals are the order of the day. In the morning it's a hot and cold buffet breakfast, and in the evening there's a tasty four-course buffet dinner. Your Christmas and New Year meals are also included.

The wonderful thing about Sestriere is that it’s really easy to reach – only about an hour and a half by car from Turin airport. Things are just as convenient when you arrive: This was the first purpose built resort in the Alps (thanks to the owners of Fiat). While it won’t be found on any lists of the world’s prettiest ski towns, its handy location more than makes up for it - high on the mountainside in the Northern Province of Turin, near the Franco-Italian border. Most hotels are rated 3/4 stars, while ...
There’s a whopping 400km of slopes to explore here, and the fact that it hosted the 2006 winter Olympics is a fine mark of quality. Two local ski areas - Mount Sises and Motta - are accessible directly from the town and with the Milky Way lift pass in hand, you can ski far and wide across the Via Lattea. Sauze d'Oulx is easy to reach by gondola, and Sestriere’s also a super base for day trips across the border to Montgenevre in France. One of the best things for beginners is the price of ski lessons – which a...
Après-ski livens up at the weekends with the influx of local Italians who come to enjoy their free time in the town. During the week the resort is more relaxed but still offers a fun vibe and good nightlife with plenty of bars to wind down in and reminisce over the days adventures. Groups will always find great places to spend their evenings with a few drinks and delicious food. For those all-important après-ski drinks, Pinky’s Pizzeria is the place to be (and if you’ve worked up an appetite on the slopes, i...

"Jan 15 group holiday in Sestriere"

Ben, UK
4/ out of 5
The holiday was OK, a bit dramatic as we ended up sending someone home with a massively broken arm (still in plaster 3 months later) but the reps and staff were great in dealing with it all. The hotel itself is a nice place and although the food was unusual it was very good. On 5 nights they had a big buffet (mostly traditional Italian), which was kind of the same every night, then on the 6th night they did a big gala dinner with 7 courses which was amazing. Our rooms were on the small side but not unhelpfully so, and everything was nice and clean. We were all in twin rooms and the beds were a bit narrow. Overall OK. Location wise, we didn’t have a whole lot of snow so ended up going out of Sestriere. The hotel does have a shuttle bus to take you to the lift so you don’t have to walk.
