Near the end of the stunning Ziller Valley, Mayrhofen exudes Austrian charm in a lively, cheerful atmosphere. Dating back to 1511, its architecture's charmingly old school, yet all mod-cons are present and correct. The resort's location is fantastic: Only an hour's drive from Innsbruck airport. "All I needed"

The Pramstraller’s a very good hotel, lovely building and very clean. The rooms were excellent – I was on my own so had a double to myself. The cleaner came every day and the sheets were changed regularly. I had a really nice ensuite shower, and the whole place was a nice temperature. It’s a very small guesthouse but it’s very central. It’s near the stop for the bus that you get to the gondola and also near the rail station where you get buses down the valley. I didn’t have to walk far at all. Breakfasts were basic but there was plenty of food. For evening meals you had to go round to the Hotel Rose where the food was very good. One evening they’d have a set menu, the next they’d have a buffet and it rotated like that all week. Some people might want a big hotel with a swimming pool etc, but it had everything I wanted.

"Central hotel, all fine."

"Basic, clean, good value"

We had a great week, the Pramstraller is basic but clean – we liked that the rooms were changed regularly and everything was cleaned more than expected. The breakfasts were ok, very basic continental buffets – nothing to write home about but they did the job. We had a half board package with dinner in a different hotel but the food was awful (you only got one choice and it would be something like ‘creamy turkey’) so we ended up speaking to the rep and cancelling that part of the package. Mayrhofen has plenty of nice places where we could eat for the same price anyway. The location wasn’t bad – it was slightly more than a comfortable walk to the lifts or you could get the bus, although you had to walk in the wrong direction to reach the bus stop and the bus then went all around the houses. At the end of the day, the location certainly wasn’t terrible and if we’d wanted to, we could have spent more and stayed closer. There was nothing wrong with the Pramstraller considering the price we paid.

"Not fancy but fine"

The accommodation was fine – obviously it’s nothing fancy but it definitely did what we needed! We were a group of nine and had no problems with any of the rooms – they weren’t luxury rooms but they were clean. The staff were all very good. It isn’t as close to the main lifts as I was hoping but it was close enough; we could walk there in about 10 minutes wearing ski boots. Breakfasts were very basic but again ok. We had to go over the road to another hotel for dinner (they had a separate room for people not staying there). The dinners were on and off, one day the main would be nice and the next horrible – can’t remember any specifics but I remember thinking it wasn’t that pleasant. They did a mix of things, starter of soup followed by a main and pudding.
