· 15 minutes' walk (1km) to the resort centre · 2 minutes' walk to the nearest lift and ski bus stop · 3 minutes' walk to the ski school and nursery slopes
The homely Laaxerhof enjoys a quiet location, about 1km from the centre of Obertauern, with panoramic views of the mountains and town. Ideally for skiers, it’s just a couple of minutes’ walk to the nearest lift and you can ski back to within a couple of minutes of the hotel at the end of the day.
The Laaxerhof is made up of two buildings, Upper and Lower House, which are about 200m apart. All customers check in at the Lower House, but there are rooms in both.
Speaking of, there’s a great choice of rooms here, from standard twins to spacious family apartments. They’re simply decorated with traditional wooden furniture but, most importantly, they’re clean, comfortable and warm.
Facilities are pretty limited, but the Laaxerhof does have a sauna and infrared cabin to warm you up in the evening, plus a ski room for storing your gear and free WiFi for keeping in touch with home. You can fill up on a generous buffet breakfast each morning, and then explore the many restaurants in town for lunch and dinner. They even offer a shuttle service to the nearby Hotel Tauernglockl if you fancy a pizza in the evening.

Austrian twin beds
Austrian twin beds are very common in Central Europe. They’re simply one large bed frame containing two single mattresses, both with separate duvets and linen sets, that cannot be separated. Separate twin beds are less common and can often be head to head beds, rather than side by side, if they are available.
•Excellent lift system •Clever natural ski circuit •Attractive purpose built resort
Obertauern stands apart from other Austrian resorts in more ways than one; it’s the nation’s only purpose-built resort offering ski in/ski out convenience whilst impressively maintaining Austrian charm. It has unusually high altitudes for Austria, with pistes peaking at 2313m, and the ski area is built in a one-of-a-kind circuit where you always return to your starting point, whichever direction you ski.
