Overview: hotel description: Falkensteiner Hotel Cristallo description

Sitting just across the road from the foot of the piste, this hotel puts you in an ideal spot to max out on mountain hours. Just take a few steps from the boot room door, click in and you’re off. And as you’ll be staying full board, it’s easy to swoosh on back for a slopeside lunch to set you up for the afternoon.

When you’re done for the day, swap your ski trousers for swimwear and make a splash in the pools. Then dial up the zen in the huge spa, where you can stretch out in the warmth of the steam room and sauna or hop in the bubbling hot tubs. And there’s plenty for the little ones too – from a wellness area designed just for them, to a waterslide to whizz down and a kids’ club with all kinds of crafts and activities.

All your meals are taken care of thanks to your full-board stay, plus you’ll get an afternoon snack for an après energy boost. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, so you can pick and choose to make your perfect plate, and in the evenings there’s table service too. The cuisine here is a cross-border blend of Austrian and Italian fare, using lots of local ingredients and served up with a gourmet touch.

This quaint, family favourite resort has bundles of character and is nestled between Obertauern, the Hohe Tauern and the Nockberge mountains in the heart of Austria. The village is absolutely overflowing with traditional Austrian charm – the classic buildings are made of authentic wood and stone and you’ll notice waiters dressed in lederhosen and regular markets selling local delicacies such as apple strudel and the local après ski drink of choice, Jägertee (made with strong rum, hot black tea and various...
Katschberg’s family motto is “introduce your children to winter sports and start a lifelong love” and this is certainly a super place to do so. The resort prides itself on its family friendly nature and focuses a lot of attention on the youngsters. There’s a dedicated children’s area called Katschi’s Kids’ World with child-only lifts and runs so little ones can learn in a peaceful environment. Beginners have a number of gentle blues very near the village - we like piste 2 which is nice and wide and winds ...
Things are relatively quiet and low-key here and après ski is reasonably relaxed. Wherever you are you won't be far from a mountain restaurant – fill those hungry stomachs in one of 14 ski huts - try the spare ribs at Pizzeria Stamperl, Carinthian specialities at the rustic Gamskogelhutte with its cosy fireplace or Salzburgerland dishes at the Schneeflockerl such as delicious Speckknödel (dumplings with pieces of bacon). The most popular après ski destination is Wilderer Alm which you’ll find directly bes...

"The hotel was highly recommended by a friend of mine and we couldn’t fault it. "

The staff were really good, the facilities were great (although we didn’t get a chance to use them as we were too busy skiing, but it was clearly there to be used if we wanted to) and the hotel was fantastic. The travel to and from the hotel was very smooth and easy too. I’d highly recommend it for families, I don’t think I’d go there if I went on my own or if it was a group of adults, it was definitely a family resort. It was very much geared to families with kids and especially younger kids. We really enjoyed the food, it was excellent. We were on full board, so we actually did go back during the day for lunch, which is something that I’ve never done in skiing. We actually made the effort to go back to the hotel, which again is an aspect of it’s convenience to get to it and from it, from the slopes. I wouldn’t have bothered if it was a big effort, and also the food was good enough for us to warrant going back to eat for lunch. The evening meal was fantastic too, you’d have to be a fussy person to argue about the food in that place. There was even a free ice-cream machine in reception to help yourself and they also put out snacks and pastries to snack on too. The location of the hotel was ideal really, “conveniently located” I would call it. It was as much as ski in/ski out as you’d like, probably about a 50 meter walk away. It was all really easy.
