Skiing Finland for Christmas 2024
The ski resorts are some of the snowiest around, the landscape’s all winter-wonderland wilderness, there’s a high chance of seeing the northern lights… And let’s not forget, this is Finnish Lapland, where Santa and his reindeer reside. If you want to spend your Christmas somewhere special, we can’t think of a more magical place to do so.
Hotels & cabins
Cosied up in a log cabin or hopping from fabulous facility to fabulous facility in your hotel – there’s a range of places to stay over your Christmas in Finland. Packages with meals included save you the hassle of cooking and planning, letting you spend time relaxing with your loved ones. On the other hand, self-catered arrangements give you the freedom to whip up your favourite festive food, and enjoy it in your own time and space. Either way, a package combining wherever you stay with flights and transfers lets you sort out the main parts of your trip in one go, giving you time to get on with the all-important Christmas shopping.
Christmas snow & weather
We’ve never had to question whether Lapland’s ski resorts will have a white Christmas, with the snow starting to fall well before advent and staying put thanks to low temperatures. This does mean you’ll want to wrap up very warm, as December can be the coldest time of the year – sometimes snowsuits can be provided with your flights and accommodation. Daylight hours are few but don’t see this as a downer, it ups your chances of spotting the northern lights which’ll give you a yuletide to remember. It won’t steal your skiing time either, with slopes and snow parks floodlit to keep up the tempo after dark.
Christmas activities
For a jam-packed Christmas of exciting activities, you’ve come to the right place – besides skiing and snowboarding, the list of things to do goes on and on. Our favourite festive pursuits include meeting the REAL Santa Claus and taking reindeer and husky sleigh rides through snowy forest. Beyond that there’s snowmobiling, ice fishing, horse riding and various ways to hunt down the northern lights, from igloo sleepovers to night-time snowshoe hikes. Indoors, you’ll find swimming pools, spas, bowling alleys, soft play areas and much more to keep every age group entertained.
