Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"2 weeks in Chalet Valerie"

J. B.
4/ out of 5
I stayed for two weeks in Chalet Valerie with two different sets of people - Sasha, Barney, Beth and the other staff were fantastic. My stay was absolutely smashing and I really enjoyed myself. I thought the food was lovely. My mate was a bit fussy and went out a couple of nights but I liked the meals. They offered to cook any food he liked which was nice. For me the rooms were smashing – very clean with comfortable beds. The rooms could do with mirrors to make them feel a bit more spacious, as well as a small table and chair to sit at. The bathroom was smashing, really big, neat and tidy with everything there. I’m 72 and the steps up from the ski room in the basement was tiring at the end of the day, but being able to ski back to the door was great.

We had a lovely week. We felt Roz did have a tough time having different people to work with all week. The food was delicious and well presented. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms cleaned everyday. The only negative part was that the sitting room wasn't cleared regularly of cups and glasses, we put this down to having different people to work with who perhaps didn't realise that there were things upstairs to clear (out of sight out of mind). This didn't spoil our holiday but perhaps just needs pointing out.

"Lovely base from which to ski Tignes"

Like nearby chalets Francois and Dominique, this chalet has some lovely qualities: - great location in relation to the piste (ski-in ski-out most of the time) and - within 100metres of the Val Claret village centre - and ski school meeting point, it is also - less than five minutes’ walk from the nearest bus stop, giving you access to the northern part of the resort. We love the open fire place as it welcomes you in, and the relaxation facilities add an upmarket touch to an already homely and stylish chalet.
