Overview: chalet description: Chalet Soldanella description

Chalet Soldanella is a traditional Italian style chalet in Selva, so the bedrooms are all decorated with fresh wood panelling, comfortable furniture, and tasteful fabrics which adds to their comfortable and bright look.

Catered Ski Chalet

The chalet staff provide a continental buffet breakfast everyday and an excellent hot breakfast six mornings per week. A three course set evening menu is served six days per week including unlimited wine and a prosecco apéritif before dinner.

Once you return from the slopes, you can enjoy afternoon tea, coffee, and cake provided by the chalet staff.

The dining room and lounge both match the traditional, yet up-to-date, feel and are really welcoming communal areas where you can sit down to dinner or catch up with your friends at the end of the day. The views from the lounge balcony are stunning, making it the ideal place to relax.

Location

The Soldanella is in a great location, just five minutes’ walk from Selva’s lively resort centre and within easy reach of the ski-lifts and slopes. You can ski down to the Ciampinoi Gondola via the piste, or access the Dantercepies lift system from the nearby village centre.

This package holiday to Chalet Soldanella in Selva, Italy departs Saturday 11th January 2025, for a 7 night stay on a "catered chalet" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 2024 was between €1 and €3 per person, per night.

Selva is the best known and highest of Val Gardena’s close-set group of villages, which also include Ortisei and Santa Cristina. Val Gardena is part of the expansive Dolomiti Superski area and topping the list of reasons to visit the Dolomites, or ‘Pale Mountains’, is its status as a UNESCO world heritage site - Selva has some striking views of the Sassolungo massif and Puez mountains on either side. Named “Sëlva” by its Ladin speaking locals (the name apparently comes from the Ladin word for wood) or “...
The nursery slopes are close to town and there’s a nice collection of blues towards one side of Piz Seteur and at Plan de Gralba (it’s worth mastering the bus timetable when going onto Plan de Gralba as taking the mountain route can land a beginner on some rather tricky reds). There are a number of ski school options available as well as a Fun Park for the younger-hearted. Just by looking at the piste map you can see the intermediate-friendly nature of the skiing here. For those re-discovering their ski leg...
Italian resorts don’t tend to be overly wild when it comes to après ski but with 20 bars, 45 restaurants and 2 main clubs Selva does rather well... If you’ve never had the iconic Bombardino beverage, this is a good place to sample one! Bar Saltos is a good foodie spot with a sometimes themed menu and music scene for later on. La Stua, near the Costabella ski lift, is great for après ski with a sunny terrace and live music. By the Dantercepies, Panorama does some hearty dishes, perfect before the final run...

"The accommodation was really good for us. "

Wendy

The accommodation was really good for us. Really good communal areas and nice comfortable rooms. The staff were very nice and helpful – my children never want to do a holiday another way again. They were really friendly and helped us with all the public transport in the area to visit other villages. We had a room with a balcony and lovely views of the mountain, which worked really well for us. The food was really good and they were very accommodating for different dietary requirement, which my daughter had. They were very open to making sure you were happy, well fed and having a great holiday. It was convenient getting to the slopes. It’s very close to town and all good. It was also easy to get a bus to other villages if you want to, and the staff helped with that. If you are a beginner there is a good slope in the village, but there isn’t much for blue run skiers. Awesome skiing for red run skiers. There are some awesome walking trails, including one in Ortisei up to a mountain cabin- great to do on a clear day. It’s worth catching buses to other areas in the region. Selva is a nice vibey village.

Practically ski-in ski-out, the nearest slope is barely 30 seconds away, and town centre a little over three hundred yards walk. A freshly cooked breakfast warms and energise before you clip into skis and head into the mountain. At the end of an exciting day you’ll be able to glide straight back to your door for a multi-course dinner complete with complimentary wine and coffee - we are always impressed by the standard of chalet hosting. I may be the perfect place to enjoy this first class ski resort, with the Tyrolean design and added bonus of balconies available in a number of the rooms (ask before booking). In many ways its the friendly hosts and their free flowing wine over dinner that really make the stay memorable. Whatever aspect you prefer to focus on, it all adds up to a favourite place to stay in Val Gardena.
