Brimming with traditional Austrian charm but with all the conveniences of a modern resort, St Anton's vast, high altitude ski area and vibrant atmosphere make it truly world class. It's one of the major international destinations that everyone must visit at least once (and is likely to return to frequently thereafter). Two minutes from the train station and less than an hour's drive from Innsbruck airport, it's a conveniently accessible resort. The main village is traffic free and stretches for about 1km - dot...
It's often said that if you learn to ski or snowboard here, you're likely to find any other resort an utter breeze... Just don't do a Bridget Jones (her memorable descent in 'Edge of Reason' took place on one of the more challenging Arlberg runs) and make sure to take advantage of the excellent tuition on offer. Thanks to local legend Hannes Schneider, St Anton opened the first ski school in 1921. The Skischule Arlberg continues to provide excellent tuition today, so beginners are in good hands. There's a nurs...
The après ski here is absolutely legendary: the atmosphere is constantly buzzing and with a night bus running until 3am, you can really make the most of your evening. You'll find about 20 bars offering a variety of scenes, but to experience après ski at its best you can't leave until you've joined the masses and danced on the tables at world-famous Mooserwirt or The Crazy Kangaroo (Krazy Kanguruh). While it's reputation is lively (and the resort lives up to it) there are lots of options if you prefer a more so...

"Sole occupancy of Chalet Rendl"

Overall it was a great week – this is a lovely chalet and we liked the spaciousness. There were a couple of things that we weren’t entirely happy with… One was the amount of chalet staff constantly coming and going, we had a couple of white out days when we stayed in, and they’d be going in and out, always ignoring us like we weren’t there. During meals they’d come and take things – I don’t know if it’s because our hosts were better prepared with food and equipment but it seemed like Piccadilly Circus. We hadn’t been told people were coming to fix the TV’s to the walls in the rooms, so one day we came back to find strange people in rooms that we’d left everything out in, thinking it was only us that would be in there. We’re the same group who travel together every year, and we always take the chalet to ourselves so we don’t have to worry about who else is staying there – which made the above a bit irritating. There were absolutely no toiletries at all, which sounds petty but where we’ve been before we’ve had shower gel and soap, so some of us didn’t pack any. For the price we paid it would have been nice if they were provided. The food was alright, nothing was absolutely awful but it was quite average cooking. They seem to try menus that they think will impress people when they’d be better off doing a pot of stew or something like that. Breakfasts were good though, and they made an effort to ask how we liked our eggs etc. Location-wise, we walked mostly but there was the bus if you needed it. Apart from the gripes it was lovely and clean - we enjoyed St Anton and it was cheaper and quiter than France!
