Location: where is Chalet Nightingale

Chalet Nightingale, which sits alongside its sister 'Chalet Woodpecker' is a beautifully decorated chalet, in a superb location in Alpe d'Huez. The chalet sits on Avenue de l'Eclose, which is located at the most southernmost part of the main village, just off the main route into the centre of town. The town centre is only a 5 minute walk from the busy centre of Alpe d'Huez and with the nearest ski slope right outside, keen skiers will be more than content as you step out the door and straight onto the piste. The piste outside heads down towards the older village of Huez, and whilst it might not be suited to beginners, the chalet is only a 3 minute walk from the Telecentre lift, which will whisk them straight to the foot of the nursery area and the departure point of the main lifts.

Overview: chalet description: Chalet Nightingale description

Like its sister chalet 'Woodpecker', 'Nightingale' has been recently renovated and stylishly finished to a beautiful chalet which is elegantly furnished in a way that blends the traditional Alpine wood panelling with a light, airy and modern feel. With three bedrooms sleeping up to 6 guests, this is the perfect chalet for a family to enjoy on their own, or for a larger group when booked together with neighbouring Chalet Woodpecker.

Entrance to the chalet is on the ground floor, where you'll find a spacious ski storage area, complete with heated boot driers so you're guaranteed toasty feet each morning. If you take the stairs down to the lower ground floor, you'll find the wonderful relaxation area, complete with indoor hot tub, sauna and shower. The perfect spot to unwind after a tiring day on the slopes and ease any aches and pains that come with it.

On the first floor you'll find the open plan living room, kitchen and dining space. The room is light and airy, with high vaulted ceilings in the eaves of the building. Outside of the living space is a large balcony from which there are stunning views of the surrounding mountains and a great spot to enjoy an apres-ski drink if the weather is kind to you. The dining table and sitting room areas have ample space for 6-7 guests to sit comfortably. The kitchen is modern and stylishly finished, and comes fully equipped with an oven, four-ring induction hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, Nespresso machine and coffee percolator, so you'll have everything required to rustle up a stunning meal for your friends and family.

There are three bedrooms located on the first floor which follow the wood panelled walls and exposed beams that run through the rest of the chalet. The rooms are all spacious with modern en-suites. There are two twin bedrooms (90 x 200cm) with en-suite shower rooms and the third room also with twin beds, and room for an additional bed suitable for children under 11 years old. This room has an en-suite bathroom and WC, as well as a balcony.

If you're planning to drive, then there are four parking spaces located in front of the chalet between Chalet Woodpecker and Chalet Nightingale, please speak to our team to confirm how many spaces are available between each chalet. There is free WIFI throughout, so whether you want to spend a relaxing evening streaming your favourite series, or you need to do some work whilst you're away, you'll be well covered in this lovely chalet.

Meals: Chalet Nightingale food & drink

Classic Contactless Catering Service

Your chalet will be ready on arrival - beds made, dinner ready and fridges stocked*, wine-cellars replenished, skis and lift passes all booked. But you won't see us. We'll be at the end of the phone, but there will be no contact, unless you need it. You and your family will be safe and looked-after, as we work in the background, providing everything you need.

Our contactless catering service comes with the choice of two pricing options, a fixed menu with food and drink included in the price, and our à la carte option which allows you greater flexibility to eat and drink whatever you desire and the cost of the food is on supplement, at cost price, and depending on what produce you choose to order.

For those looking for a simple packaged chalet price, we are offering an all-inclusive price, which includes rental of the chalet and your food and drink for the week. Included will be breakfast, afternoon tea, a three course dinner on 6 out of 7 nights, plus unlimited wine and some beers. We have prepared a delicious menu for the week, with a mix of ready prepared meals from a local delicatessen and easy to cook dishes or sides. All that will be required from you is to pop a few things in the oven and throw together a few ingredients to make a simple salad, or steam a few vegetables as sides to your main meal.

Perhaps you want the freedom to choose your own menus, or perhaps you'd prefer to eat out more than one evening during the week, or you just love to cook yourself and enjoy the holidays where you have time to do this in a relaxed way. That's where our à la carte contactless catering service comes in. As an alternative to the service detailed above, we will also offer a lower rate, which does not include the food and drink for the week and we will give you the opportunity to order the food and drink of your choice, at the local hypermarket rates, and bill you for this afterwards. Four days before arrival, you will receive a comprehensive provisions list with everything you could possibly need for your holiday. That might be oven-ready meals, or the ingredients you'll need for Bolognaise, Soufflés or Cheese Fondues. Dry goods, dairy, fresh fruit and veg, fresh meat or fish, beers, wines, champagne, whatever, all bought for you and stocked in advance.

Our aim is to provide the safest possible environment for a ski holiday, whilst staying as affordable as possible. The new way to holiday will be by enjoying the facilities, food and beverages but without the staff waiting on you hand and foot. That will keep things safe and affordable. However, for those in search of a little more luxury, we are able to provide drivers, chefs, daily cleaning, ski lessons etc, all of which can be discussed at the time of booking or with our concierge service prior to arrival.

*Please note that for the à la carte option, all food, drink, ski hire and lift passes come at additional costs and are not included in the chalet price. Provisions will be billed at cost price and can be ordered from the list that will be sent out to you, and ski hire and lift passes can be booked in advance with our preferential rates. For our fixed menu option, the price does not include ski hire and lift passes, but it does include breakfast and afternoon tea for 7 days, plus a 3-course dinner with beer and wine for 6 days.

We update Chalet Nightingale's details often, but facilities do change. e.g. some extras listed by the supplier as "free" or included might only be for the first time you use them, or for one time per party, then charged for further use. If any specific feature is essential to your holiday, make sure you ask us to confirm the details of it before you book your holiday.

This accommodation only holiday to Chalet Nightingale in Alpe d'Huez, France departs Saturday 12th April 2025, for a 7 night stay on a "self catering" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d'Huez is very accessible from Grenoble or Chambery airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain. It is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as "...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936, and with the culmination of around 20 Million Euros of improvements due to come to fruition for 2021, there is a huge ski area to be explored. With a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers. There are plenty of wide-open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the bl...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe. It combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithy’s has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex food to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France, O’Sharkey’s is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’Huez has all of the usual culinary delights you’d expect in the mountains. To sample some traditional French food, ...
