Overview: chalet description: Chalet Mathilde description

Chalet Mathilde is one of three chalets in a small residence at the entrance to the Balcons area of Val Thorens. The building is shared exclusively with Chalets Chloe and Noella. The entrance is on the top floor and a shared staircase leads to the chalets, which are each individually run and hosted.

Excellent location

The resort is one of the highest ski resorts in Europe at 2,300 metres and is connected to the largest lift linked area, the Three Valleys, so all abilities can enjoy great snow coverage and a wide variety of runs. The Chalet Mathilde has a fantastic location in Val Thorens, at the start of the day walk 100 metres along the road to the Plein Sud blue running through the village, then ski straight to the ski lifts which connect to the Three Valleys or keep right to head down towards Les Menuires.

The resort centre is around a five minute walk away, where you have access to a variety of shops, cafes and bars - on your free evening head to one of the restaurants serving delicious Savoyard dishes such as fondue or raclette.

Chalet catering

In order to make your stay as comfortable as possible, your chalet hosts will be available to assist you with each aspect of your holiday. To fuel your ski days, they prepare home-made comfort food, including a cooked breakfast, afternoon tea snacks, and a three-course dinner with wine six days a week. In addition to preparing and serving your meals, the hosts will also maintain the cleanliness in the chalet throughout the week. As you are on holiday, all you have to do is get up and go skiing.

Unwind and relax

The chalet is decorated in a traditional Alpine fashion, with comfortable furnishings throughout the property including an open planned lounge and dining area. After a day of exploring the Three Valleys head back to the chalet to enjoy a coffee and a tasty afternoon tea treat or head out onto the sun terrace with great views across the resort to catch a bit of winter sun.

After a day on the slopes, take advantage of the shared wellness area. Give your ski legs a break and relax in the sauna or steam-room, available for all guests within the residence.

Why is this a choice property?

Easy ski access - Located a short walk away from the Plein Sud piste you have quick and easy access to the Three Valleys.

Close to resort - The Chalet Mathilde is a short walk to the resort centre where you can find plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. There are also plenty of other non-skiing activities to keep you entertained including the state of the art Le Board sport centre.

Chalet hosts - Our chalet hosts are on hand to make your stay enjoyable, look forward to freshly prepared meals six days a week and relax knowing the tidying up is done for you - after all you are on holiday.

Our chalets are going greener, so our mountains don't

This season, our menu is changing for the better. In all of our chalets we're giving you more choice, with both meat-free and meat options on offer throughout your stay. This is driven as part of our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint.

At the summit of the largest ski area in the world and bordering the Vanoise National Park, this is a spectacular place to ski and board. Beginners are well catered for on nursery slopes by the Rond Point des Pistes, where the magic carpets often don't require a lift pass. Kids will love the Junior Park, while the Musaraigne and Campagnols runs in the beginner's area and the new Deux Combes green are perfect to practice on. The après ski here easily rivals other top resorts in the Alps. If you haven't already had the Folie Douce experience, head just under the Plein Sud lift where the "dancefloor on top of the world" is heaving from 3 pm. Another place to party is Bar 360 at the end of the blue Moraine run, which always has live music and cheaper drinks. "The staff really were brilliant"

Georgie
4/ out of 5
Accommodation was lovely and I don't think the pictures do it justice. The views from the living area were great and meant we could see if people were on the slopes (especially good when the conditions were dodgey!). All the rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were nice and clean too. The living area was also spacious enough for the 7 of us to relax and chill without feeling too squashed! The food was great, they catered to my dairy-free needs really well. A few of our party even asked for the recipes as they wanted to try making them at home! So easy, it's a 5 min walk down the hill. It's also really close to other bars/restaurants/apres so you're spoilt for choice really. The staff were really and helped book us into restaurants on the days/nights that we weren't eating at the chalet. They also gave us loads of advice and recommendations on where to go. They knew when to get involved and chat with us but also when to give us a bit of space and allow us to have fun as a group. They also massively helped us out as one of our party managed to pick up someone else's skis so the chalet manager helped sort that out for us too!

"Superlative vista, high altitude conditions, nice."

Located on the top floor of an apartment block this chalet boasts the best views from the balcony of one of the more popular resorts in the global Top Ten. The expertly prepared meals served are deliciously with complemented with free flowing wine during dinner. The chalet hosts are very knowledgeable of the resort and you can tell they feel they are there to help - you can ask them about their favourite après ski and the best/secret spots for untracked or easy off-piste. Skiing is within 100m of the main entrance and you are only a short walk from the resort centre.
