Established in the 1960s as the brainchild of Olympic champion skier Jean Vuarnet, Avoriaz is a purpose build resort with tonnes of character. The wood-clad buildings have a striking appearance that set it apart from other destinations. Even more impressive is the 360° panorama of the Alps. Avoriaz is brilliantly located right in the centre of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Avoriaz is one of our favourite resorts to bring the family - thanks to a huge and central children's village, complete with a specialised snowboarding area, children can learn to ski and ride in a fun and safe environment. Avoriaz is one of the only resorts that has a Beginner Pass, letting you find your feet on easy terrain via 14 lifts without the expense of a full lift pass. Beginners-only piste Première Glisse gives you the chance to improve at your own pace, while Proclou and Q'monts are easy blues for cr...
Avoriaz has worked hard on it's apres game in the last few years, with the addition of a well-known apres go to 'La Folie Douce' for winter 2018. It has an array of restaurants, bars and off-slope activities that contribute to a lively après ski scene. "Nice chalet in a great resort"

"Perfect"

There was nothing wrong with it really! Everything was nice and clean and the girl and boy running the chalet were great. It’s right next to one of the slopes so you can ski straight from the chalet (the slope was easy enough to suit everyone). The food was beautiful. Breakfast was continental with a cooked dish if we wanted. At 4ish they always made a cake so you could come in and have that. They’d tell you in the morning what they were planning for dinner and give you a choice – dinner was 4 courses and it was first class. My room was on the bottom floor near the boot room, it was basic but fine and they cleaned it every day if you wanted. The chalet has a wee balcony looking out as well as a television and a games room so the facilities are good too.

"Just clip in and go, slopeside heaven"

A top of the line catered chalet nestled right on the piste, from whence you can ski right onto the slopes in the Portes du Soleil linked domain. Great for those keen-bean skiers and boarders among us, who want to hit the snow first thing (me included!). The large living area has open fireplace and a sauna where you can chill out at the end of the evening. The operator of the chalet has a reputation as a terrific chalet host, so you enjoy home-cooked food and complementary selection of wines and coffee. But don't overdo it because, with a slopeside location like this, you'll be up and out with the first lifts in the morning.
