Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"Clean and tidy, good food, good location"

George & Penny, Lincolnshire
4/ out of 5
More than adequate – nothing too over the top but very clean and tidy. Our host did a good job with the food and while our bedroom wasn’t the most spacious, it was fine and we had enough storage. The sauna was good and the social areas had more than enough room for everyone. Access to the slopes and town was easy: the chalet is pretty much ski in, ski out (though only from one side, so you may end up walking a bit and would need to plan your route). It didn’t take long to get into town, though the walk back was a bit uphill. As for the rest of the week, we enjoyed Tignes (had been to Val d’Isere before so Tignes was very much as expected) and the transfers were fine.

"Good all round"

Our first time staying in a chalet and the whole stay was all really good! The food was great which is always nice. We had a double with a bath which was great. The location is fine for intermediates and above as you can ski down, but for beginners it’s a little further away as you have to drag yourself over to the beginner area. We got on with everyone in the chalet and really liked the staff. The chalet wasn’t too big which was nice.
