Great chalet, good position, food and hosts. Resort has a great range of skiing and even on cloudy snowy days we found good runs. Even better when the sun was out. Location: where is Chalet Louisa

Chalet Louisa is a ski-in/out (in normal conditions) chalet, in the centre of the Altiport complex above the Les Bergers area on the east side of this excellent resort. From the chalet, skiers can ski to Les Bergers, the ski school meeting point and the Marmottes gondola. 20 minutes (approx.) walk from the chalet there are bars and restaurants and the free bus service (running until 22:30hrs) takes guests into the centre of Alpe d’Huez. This chalet is perfect for guests who want a quiet location from which to explore the extensive ski area of Alpe d’Huez.

Chalet Louisa offers a high standard of accommodation with excellent facilities and fantastic panoramic views of Alpe d’Huez. In addition to all rooms having en suite bathrooms with heated towel rails, there is the added luxury of both a hot tub and a sauna. Built in traditional wood and stone, this lovely chalet has a large balcony off the pleasantly decorated living/dining area with a warming wood burning stove, TV and WiFi internet access. Room 7 is a perfect room for a family with additional bunk beds that can be used by children only. This is a popular chalet so early booking is recommended.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d'Huez is very accessible from Grenoble or Chambery airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain. "Really nice, ski out chalet"

The Louisa is a really nice chalet. It was very clean and everything worked as it should. Certainly the room my son and I shared was more than adequate. For the amount of people staying there, the dining area was fine but the seating area was quite cramped when everyone was sitting around in the evenings. There was only a little L shaped sofa and a coffee table, then another small one. Once some people had monopolised it there were only dining room seats left. Being able to ski in and out was great and worked really well, even though it was late in the season. Some of the guests were fairly novice and as the run is gentle, anyone who could just about snowplough would have managed it. The only downside would be that it’s a 10-15 walk into Alpe d’Huez (or a bus, but sometimes they just drove past us without stopping). Our two hostesses were fabulous, I have done a lot of chalet skiing and they were some of the best. They didn’t live in the accommodation (which is what I’m used to from chalet holidays) but it all worked very well and I would recommend it.

The taxi didn't show up for the meal and it was booked for the wrong number of people. But it was fairly easily sorted. A really lovely chalet and was very clean. A great holiday!! Thank you.

Chalet hosts Jess and Charlotte certainly worked very hard to give us great food and wine in this "superior" chalet and, with plenty of snow making the ski-in/ski-out promise a reality, we had a good week. Chalet Louisa is a long way from any shops or bars, so any trip out in the evening involved a long walk or a taxi ride. The free night bus stops running after 9.30pm. As noted in previous reviews, the soundproofing between bedrooms was very poor and the rooms themselves were quite small for a "superior" chalet with no cupboards in our room to hide away valuables. The dining table was cramped with 16 of us and apparently should seat 18! A fair percentage of plates and mugs were chipped, again not what you'd expect in a "superior" chalet. Security relied on guests actively locking the door behind them when going in or out, rather than a keypad entry or similar which would have been safer and more secure.

The balance of peace and immediate access to the slopes means you’ll get to piste as quickly as you can get to the breakfast table. At a sacrifice, this does mean you’re further from the après experience- a twenty minute walk away- but it is worth the hike. See the town come alive and light up from this lofty position on the mountain, and enjoy the full panoramic views of the resort and mountain.
