The holiday was great. I stayed here with a group of guys, there were 8 of us there and we had the whole place which was nice. The chalet was brilliant. Interior quite nice and modern, as good as expected. The meals were great, really liked the social dining. Bedrooms were ideal. The snow was a bit hit and miss as we were here late in the season but overall I love St Anton, I’d been there a long time before when I was younger and wil... + more

Brilliant for small groups looking for their own space and to get away from it all, you’ll be very well looked after in this modern instalment in the St Anton suburbs, a short ten minute walk from the resort centre and the lifts. Location: where is Chalet Gretl

Oberdorf. In the attractive Oberdorf region of St Anton, Chalet Gretl has superb access to the whole Arlberg ski area. On the one hand, the main Galzig cable car up to St Anton is a 10 minute (approx.) walk away and the centre of St Anton, a 10 minute stroll (approx.). Alternatively, you can hop on the free bus which stops 40 metres (approx.) from the chalet and whisks you off to the glamorous resorts of Zurs and Lech, in 10 and 20 minutes (approx.) respectively. The choice is yours.

For ultimate convenience you do not need to walk anywhere in ski boots or carry your skis as the chalet comes with free ski lockers at the Intersport located in the main lift area, two minutes (approx.) from both the Galzig cable car and Rendlebahn. This arrangement, whether you have your own equipment or hire, combines the convenience of leaving your equipment at the bottom of the lifts while being able to stay in the attractive, tranquil Oberdorf area of St Anton.

Overview: chalet description: Chalet Gretl description

Chalet Gretl is in the same building as our Chalet Hanzel, and modern comforts such as all en suite bedrooms are rife within these impressive, recently built chalets. The spacious living area, complete with balcony and inviting, well-appointed bedrooms, is a further advantage of Chalet Gretl. Tyrolean inspired interiors and plentiful use of wooden furnishings create an inviting, alpine feel throughout. The only issue you will face with these almost identical properties will be deciding between them; would you rather enjoy Hanzel’s sauna or Gretl’s steam room? Naturally both come with a relaxation area as well.

While both chalets are in the same building, if they are booked together, groups dine separately.

Due to local regulations, we are no longer able to offer social skiing by our staff in St Anton. We are able however to offer one day's social skiing in Sonnenkopf (for a small transport fee, subject to demand and weather conditions).

This is a Superior chalet so you can enjoy extra features including a warm reception of gluhwein, delicious four course meals and additional indulgent extras.

Brimming with traditional Austrian charm but with all the conveniences of a modern resort, St Anton's vast, high altitude ski area and vibrant atmosphere make it truly world class. It's one of the major international destinations that everyone must visit at least once (and is likely to return to frequently thereafter). Two minutes from the train station and less than an hour's drive from Innsbruck airport, it's a conveniently accessible resort. The main village is traffic free and stretches for about 1km - dot...
It's often said that if you learn to ski or snowboard here, you're likely to find any other resort an utter breeze... Just don't do a Bridget Jones (her memorable descent in 'Edge of Reason' took place on one of the more challenging Arlberg runs) and make sure to take advantage of the excellent tuition on offer. Thanks to local legend Hannes Schneider, St Anton opened the first ski school in 1921. The Skischule Arlberg continues to provide excellent tuition today, so beginners are in good hands. There's a nurs...
The après ski here is absolutely legendary: the atmosphere is constantly buzzing and with a night bus running until 3am, you can really make the most of your evening. You'll find about 20 bars offering a variety of scenes, but to experience après ski at its best you can't leave until you've joined the masses and danced on the tables at world-famous Mooserwirt or The Crazy Kangaroo (Krazy Kanguruh). While it's reputation is lively (and the resort lives up to it) there are lots of options if you prefer a more so...

"Chalet Gretl sole occupancy!"

Shon, Pembrokeshire
4/ out of 5
Very good! This was the first time we’d taken the whole chalet over ourselves, last year we shared but having sole occupancy definitely worked better. The chalet is spot on, really good. Funnily enough Charlie who looked after us last year in Courchevel was hosting here with his Mrs this year, so it was nice to have him again! The chalet is pretty new and we all liked it, we’d paid a bit more for a superior chalet and there were definitely some touches that made it extra luxurious. One thing we noticed was the size of the bedrooms – in Courchevel we could hardly put our cases in them, but this time the rooms were massive with loads of space and our own steam room too. The location was probably the only downer, the description did mention that there’s a bus stop outside, but it didn’t mention that the bus didn’t actually go in both directions. It only went one way, then did a big loop before coming into town. While one way was direct and took 2-3 minutes, the other took the best part of 10 minutes to go all the way round. We ended up walking as it was quicker in a sense! What made it alright was that the chalet provided a token so that you could put your gear in a safe place by the lifts.

"Great group chalet"

The holiday was great. I stayed here with a group of guys, there were 8 of us there and we had the whole place which was nice. It’s a split chalet with one house and two chalets inside and the interior is fine, pretty much a classic ski chalet but newly built and basic rather than a quaint old Swiss chalet but still nice. I’d stayed in St Anton before somewhere right in the middle of town at the bottom of the main lift and it was really noisy all night, so it was good to stay somewhere further out. Chalet was two bus stops away to the lifts which took about 5 minutes, the bus went round in a circle so you got on and off at the same place. It is within walkable distance but would be a bit tricky in ski boots, if you wanted to go out in the evenings it would be easy to walk though. The food was excellent considering the chalet chef had such a tiny kitchen to cook for 8 of us, she did an amazing job for what little room she had and I think they were able to use the kitchen in the connected chalet at some points. They had as much wine as you needed. I stayed in a twin room with another guy and the room was good, pretty basic with 2 singles but for just sleeping in it was fine. There’s a comfy lounge with a TV where you could sit back on the long sofa and watch a film in the evenings, it was nice to spend the evening around the dining room and then retire to the sofa afterwards.

Brilliant for small groups looking for their own space and to get away from it all, you’ll be very well looked after in this modern instalment in the St Anton suburbs, a short ten minute walk from the resort centre and the lifts. A perk of being slightly out of town is the wonderful access by bus (stopping 40 metres from your door), and you can take you to the brilliant resorts of Zurs and Lech within 10 and 20 minutes respectively. If staying for a week or more, it would be a shame not to sample all three resorts. But since Gretl comes with her brother Chalet Hanzel, the biggest question you should ask yourself is this: do you rent Gretl for the steam room, or Hanzel for the sauna? To help your decision further, be sure to ask us check (ask before you book!) if both will be operating on your dates, as this might determine your group's decision.
