We all had a really good half term. The chalet is nice, there was talk about it being 5 star or 4 star, and most people seemed to think it was more upper 4 star standard. It’s definitely ski in, ski out, give or take 50m and you can’t argue with that! Even more so with children who will ski on anything! The w... + more

Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"Nice, upper 4 star accommodation"

The Ellis Family
4/ out of 5
We all had a really good half term. The chalet is nice, there was talk about it being 5 star or 4 star, and most people seemed to think it was more upper 4 star standard. It’s definitely ski in, ski out, give or take 50m and you can’t argue with that! Even more so with children who will ski on anything! The whole place is very comfortable and it has a nice boot room. The boys cooking there were great, they were both nice young lads who produced good food. They didn’t know that we had children for high tea but we soon managed to arrange something which was fine.

We had massive delays due to heavy snowfall and it took us 13/14 hours to reach resort… but the chalet staff stayed up waiting for us and cooked us dinner at 2am which was really good of them! The food throughout the week was actually the best we’ve had. The chalet itself is good – we had a nice room with a hot tub bath – and the location was good as well, right next to one of the runs that took you down to the main lifts.

"Good, ski in / ski out chalet"

The chalet was pretty good, it was nice and spacious and had everything you needed. The food was alright, nothing particularly special but the portion sizes were fine. The location was absolutely fine as you could ski out and ski in, which we hadn’t realised (they don’t seem to advertise it as ski in, ski out). You ski down a blue and then reach the chalet via a red, so you’d need to be confident enough on reds to ski back. Our hosts were a couple of lads so we didn’t keep the tidiest of chalets, one night they had dinner in the chalet and then left us to tidy up after them which isn’t something you’d expect to happen.

We had an awesome week; the Giorgio is a really good chalet and the staff were great, it was all a lot better than we were expecting actually! Overall the food was good – it started off as ‘could be better’ but we spoke to them after a few days and it improved (the issue was mainly portion sizes). The lounge and dining area were fantastic. The bedrooms were good although we found that the mattresses were a little hard, which wasn’t really in keeping with the high standards of the rest of the chalet. Getting around couldn’t have been easier from the Giorgio. It was a two minute walk to the slope, which you could ski down to the lifts, and you could get the bus into town.
