Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

Accommodation was awesome. Great location, the staff were super friendly and accommodating. Most nights were pretty good standard of food, well made and put together but not blown away by it. You could ski in ski out if you were confident skiing the deep snow but too much snow for the piste access for me – could walk to slopes main lifts in 10 minutes. But we had lots of snow that week. Bring slippers!

This chalet is popular for combining contemporary décor with some nice rustic touches. The chalet has all the wellness facilities you’d want to help you relax after a thrilling day out on the mountain, sampling the best the Espace Killy has to offer- the sauna and steam room are on the ground floor, and there’s also an outdoor hot tub (be sure to check the facilities before you book as this is a review written in 2013/2014 and not the official property description). All of the bedrooms had en suite facilities - most also share balconies - and the Chaudannes piste is only 50 metres away. The communal areas are great for mingling with the other guests and this is a perfect crash pad for booking in all your friends or other families together. There are few better properties in Tignes for large groups. Love love love the wonderful food.
