We had a very good holiday, one of the best things about the hotel was the location - in the middle of town, 5 minutes from the slopes. This is a hotel that's full of character with quirky interiors, lavish fabrics, crystal chandeliers and mirrors at every turn. It also has a really fun atmosphere in the Prosecco bar, and the circular galleried bar regularly hosts a dance night and memorable Elvis show.

There's a brightly decorated indoor pool and wellness area too. Great if you fancy a night off the dance floor or to ease aching muscles. If you need some extra attention, you can book a massage or beauty treatment for a local charge.

It's only a short walk from the ski lifts too so within minutes you'll be at the top of the Schattberg mountain with access to miles of runs across the 270km Ski Circus area.

As well as the in-house bar, it's a great place to enjoy the lively and traditional Austrian après-ski. Saalbach is livelier than the neighbouring Hinterglemm and a good choice is your looking to enjoy your time off the slopes as well as on.

The small wellness area has an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and a relaxation area, all of which are designed to ease any aches and pains you may have from trying to do a full circuit of this magnificent ski area!

Room Types: Berger's Sporthotel bedrooms

All 60 rooms are cosy thanks to the heavy curtains and lavish soft furnishings. The hotel rooms are four-star but there's a convenient three-star (plus) annexe making the hotel a good choice for most budgets. Some rooms have a balcony and every room has an en-suite. Most rooms can take a sofa bed so can sleep up to four.

Meals: Berger's Sporthotel food & drink

The half board food gets great feedback from guests and there's plenty to keep the hungriest skier or boarder going all day long. Breakfast is a traditional buffet and the evening meal is four courses with a salad buffet and choice of main. Once a week they have a traditional Farmer's buffet and gala dinner.

If you stay over Christmas or New Year, Gala dinners and live entertainment are included.

"Catered for everything."

The hotel was in a good location, we’ve been there before about 3 or 4 times, before and after Covid. It doesn’t suit everybody’s taste, you know, but as a group I thought it was really great, it catered for everything really. The meal times weren’t set, it was between 7-9 in the evening which was brilliant. So it was very good I thought. The ski access is fantastic! It’s only a walk, 2 minutes if that, to one of the lifts. Of course it’s pedestrian areas so you have to walk anyway, it’s not as if you can get busses anyway. It was very good!

We had a very good holiday, one of the best things about the hotel was the location - in the middle of town, 5 minutes from the slopes. The other was the food; every night they did a buffet with something special so you could have 4-5 courses and as much as you wanted, and the waiter service was very good. We also enjoyed the spa facilities every day. One negative comment I’d say was the room sizes. They were very small, with room for a double bed and not much else (we had about 1m between the door and the bed and could only just get into our wardrobes). Would we return? If the hotel opposite had room and was a similar price we’d consider staying there instead. We ended up spending more time there than in our actual hotel because they had really good live music every day, whereas our hotel didn’t have any entertainment.

We were a big group and when we arrived, the rooms we’d booked didn’t quite work for us. Reception called Frau Berger who came and gave us the keys to the whole fourth floor, saying we could have a look and find some rooms that suited – she also gave one of the teens their own room so we got an extra room! There’s a gorgeous circular dining room above the champagne bar (which you can see in the pictures) – we thought we’d be eating there but were taken to sit round the back to a horrid big room with fluorescent lighting. We asked if we could eat in the circular dining room and she moved us to another room where we could have the whole place to ourselves, with our own waiter, who was unbelievably charming! The staff were fantastic and Frau Berger popped around every night to make sure all was ok. On Christmas day, they did a gorgeous thing where you drop a present in for your children and they deliver it. The hotel has a perfect location – because there was no snow we ended up having to be bussed about, but with snow, the location would be completely fabulous with the lifts just moments away. We used the ski hire shop next to the hotel and when the kids wanted to swap their skis for snowboards, they did this at no extra cost.
