Overview: hotel description: Au Chamois d’Or description

At Au Chamois d’Or, the lift is right next door. The DMC 1 is one of the major lifts in the area and makes for a brilliant starting off point when skiing in Alpe d’Huez – from the top, you can carry on to the summit of Pic Blanc, practice on a wealth of green runs or you can make your way out across the mountain to explore and even visit nearby Vaujany. Being able to stroll over and hop on first thing is certainly a treat you could get used to.

Chamois’ rooms have all the charm of a classic alpine ski chalet, but with an extra dash of luxury baked in. Here you’ll get to enjoy 5-star comfort with wooden panelling, carved furniture and patterned fabrics to keep things feeling traditional and intimate. There are some handsome fireplaces to be found around the hotel too, great for dialling up the cosiness and warming those toes. Of course, dipping said toes in the hotel’s pool or hot tub’s sure to do the trick too.

When you arrive back from the slopes, it’s always nice to pause for a drink and a natter – Chamois d’Or has a huge terrace area, ideal for just that. Stay out in the sun and drink in the panoramic views along with something refreshing. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better spot for swapping the day’s best ski stories and making plans for more tomorrow.

With a transfer time of around 2 hours, Alpe d'Huez is very accessible from Grenoble or Chambery airport. Established in 1936, it was the first resort in France to be installed with a fully operational ski lift. The resort lies in the Grandes Rousses Massif domain. It is partnered by the smaller mountain villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and La Garde, all of which are connected by a free transport system. The slopes are mainly south facing and as a result the area, known as "...
Alpe d’Huez has had sun and snow galore since 1936, and with the culmination of around 20 Million Euros of improvements due to come to fruition for 2021, there is a huge ski area to be explored. With a whopping 52km of greens, this is an excellent place for beginners. The easiest skiing is above the village and Les Bergers. There are plenty of wide-open runs underneath the DMC gondola, many being ‘beginners only’ so you can learn without too much traffic. If you’re feeling confident, try some of the bl...
If you like live music, try the Underground in Vieil Alpe. It combines a pleasant atmosphere with bands playing most nights. Smithy’s has drinks promotions and healthy portions of Tex-Mex food to match. If you can’t bear to miss an important game whilst in France, O’Sharkey’s is the best spot to watch live sports. L’igloo is the place to go if you want to party late into the night. Alpe d’Huez has all of the usual culinary delights you’d expect in the mountains. To sample some traditional French food, ...
