We’re returning to Les Arcs next year but have booked a smaller apartment as this one (classic 3 room) had more space than we needed. If there hadn’t been blizzards we’d have been able to ski out, which is why we chose it for a family, everything’s very convenient. The kitchen was a bit smaller than we had ... + more

1950 is definitely the best and also the smartest part of Les Arcs and I would recommend these apartments to anyone planning to stay there. One problem was that the bed in the sitting room was one of these put-you-up beds and was very uncomfortable; we ended up having to take the bed apart and put the mattress... + more

Les Arcs came to be in 1968 after a group of ski instructors and architects dreamt up a resort with all the perks of a village but a mountainside location. It grew into one of the largest, most incredible ski areas in the Alps. The closest airport is Chambery with a transfer time of a couple of hours, plus transport links from Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble. Present-day Les Arcs consists of four main purpose built villages. The original resort, Arc 1600, was created for doorstep skiing and is linked by a funicular ...
As you'd expect from one of the biggest ski areas on the planet, there's everything from gorgeous tree-lined runs to wild, white-knuckle off-piste. For beginners, each of the 3 main Arcs has 'ski tranquille' zone, and the wide beginner runs leading to the resort have gentle gradients perfect for practising. Local instructors are on hand to show you the ropes, with ski schools based in each of the main villages (1800 has the most). There are magic carpet lifts at 1800 and 2000 - an easy way for newbies to get up ...
If you're looking for a party, Arc 1800 is the place to be. With heaps of watering holes like the Red Hot Saloon (or the 'Red Bar' to use local lingo), Benji's and La Folie Douce. If you're looking for more of a French-style après spot, Ambiente Cafe has a really cool atmosphere and lots of nice cocktails (happy hour usually starts at 4) while Le club 1950 your venue if you're looking to party into the wee hours. Arc 1600's a little quieter but for good music and a scenic terrace check out Les 2 Têtes. In te...

"Nice apartment"

Anon, Cambridgeshire
4/ out of 5
The apartment was nice and had everything we needed. TV, kettle etc were fine. It was lovely being able to ski in and ski out. You literally go down to the locker, ski down a slope and you’re there. My husband stayed in 2000 last year and preferred 1950. It was so convenient being able to ski straight out and the ski shops were absolutely excellent. We ate in two or three nights and it was easy to buy food. There were a couple of things we could have done with when cooking in the kitchen (e.g. a strainer) but in general there was a lot of cutlery, glasses, plates etc. For eating out there are loads of nice restaurants for pizza or whatever you wanted, café’s, nice bars... In terms of space it was all good, our two teenage sons had one room and we had the other. Theirs was an ensuite and our room had a bathroom just outside which was fine. The only problem is that we didn’t see the rep at all – we were greeted and got a private taxi up to 1950 which was perfect, but coming home we didn’t have any correspondence regarding when or where we needed to get the taxi from. It ended up being really stressful making phone calls and sending emails to sort it out, and we weren’t the only ones – some other people staying in Les Arcs 2000 had the same problem.

We’re returning to Les Arcs next year but have booked a smaller apartment as this one (classic 3 room) had more space than we needed. If there hadn’t been blizzards we’d have been able to ski out, which is why we chose it for a family, everything’s very convenient. The kitchen was a bit smaller than we had expected, but buying food was easy enough. We know the facilities quite well and used a few, which were OK.

1950 is definitely the best and also the smartest part of Les Arcs and I would recommend these apartments to anyone planning to stay there. One problem was that the bed in the sitting room was one of these put-you-up beds and was very uncomfortable; we ended up having to take the bed apart and put the mattress on the floor, which is not ideal when you’re on a ski holiday... We also had trouble when we arrived as we got there at 8 in the evening (having come on the train) and didn’t know which building our apartment was in as we only had a number... having to cart all of our luggage around with 2 children at the end of a long journey was hard work when we didn’t know which desk to go to! Otherwise everything was quite excellent; it was so good to stay somewhere we could ski in and out. We found it every easy indeed to cook for the week, there’s a very good patisserie for bread just around the corner and a supermarket nearby too.
