Plus, you can start your mornings with that kick of fresh air on your balcony or terrace. After a day on the mountain, take your pick of ways to relax. From cosying up by the fire with a book or a post-piste drink at the bar to unwinding in the sauna and infrared cabin.

Fuel up at the breakfast buffet with a satisfying spread. Pick from eggs, pancakes, and homemade Tyrolean jams, washed down with an original highland coffee from Peru. When it comes to dinner, hit the bustling town or try the hotel’s restaurant – Al Fuego, serving up some seriously tasty food on the charcoal BBQ.

Brimming with traditional Austrian charm but with all the conveniences of a modern resort, St Anton's vast, high altitude ski area and vibrant atmosphere make it truly world class. It's one of the major international destinations that everyone must visit at least once (and is likely to return to frequently thereafter). It's often said that if you learn to ski or snowboard here, you're likely to find any other resort an utter breeze... Just don't do a Bridget Jones (her memorable descent in 'Edge of Reason' took place on one of the more challenging Arlberg runs) and make sure to take advantage of the excellent tuition on offer. The après ski here is absolutely legendary: the atmosphere is constantly buzzing and with a night bus running until 3am, you can really make the most of your evening. You'll find about 20 bars offering a variety of scenes, but to experience après ski at its best you can't leave until you've joined the masses and danced on the tables at world-famous Mooserwirt or The Crazy Kangaroo (Krazy Kanguruh).
