"Iconic hotel is centrepiece of Mayrhofen"

Duncan Bowtell, London

We had a very good time and the Kramerwirt is a great hotel. I was aware of the hotel before I booked it as I’d been to Mayrhofen a few times before – if you know Mayrhofen, the hotel basically forms the centre of the town; it’s an iconic piece of Mayrhofen architecture. Because of the central location, the Kramerwirt is very convenient for the shops, it’s a little distance from the lifts but the bus leaves right next door which is really convenient. We stayed in the annexe where the rooms are a bit cheaper; the main hotel is just opposite and you go over the road for dinner etc. The rooms were nice and comfortable and I don’t think we had any issues at all. The price we paid wasn’t particularly expensive and it wasn’t the lap of luxury, but we had a fair amount of space and were very well looked after. The only downside is that there wasn’t a good deal of ski storage so we ended up keeping our equipment in our room. It’s a family run hotel and we had our evening meals in the restaurant - really good filling après ski food with 3 course meals every night.

"A genuinely terrific place to stay"

Excellent hotel – much better than where we stayed this year, I would thoroughly recommend it. Outside looks amazing and really lovely, very charming and Austrian. Inside is nice and big with lots of wood, everything’s very Austrian. The only thing was that people could smoke in the bar but this didn’t really affect us as we went to Mo’s bar every night with the kids. For us it was the food that made the holiday - it was outstanding with 4 course meals that you get to choose the night before – the quality was excellent and even my fussy teenage son was happy! We always had soup and they did theme evenings with a buffet and Italian night which everyone enjoyed. The waiters came to you all dressed up in traditional Austrian gear and we had no problems with the staff at all. We read reviews with people saying they had issues with the noise of bells going off but we didn’t hear anything, maybe they switched them off for half term... We stayed in the annexe which is opposite the hotel and our rooms were clean, bright and modern. From the annexe you’re literally 50 yards from the main entrance, so you just walk over for breakfast and dinner. The boot room is downstairs in the main hotel, which meant we could just go down after breakfast to get our stuff. The ski hire shop is round the corner and you can also walk in to town in about 3-4 minutes. The bus stops right outside the hotel which takes you to the main Penken area (although I definitely recommend staying on the bus to the Ahorn area which is much quieter).

"Good place for pretty much everyone"

We had a half board package with breakfast and dinner which included a different breakfast every morning and a different dinner every night with interesting local dishes. We were lucky as we ended up in a room with a balcony, it was a very simple room with just a bed and a little desk but the bed was very comfortable. Our room wasn’t in the main complex, it was in a block literally across the road of literally just rooms and we had to go over into the main part of the hotel for food and whatnot. There is a spa in the main hotel but you have to pay for it with the package we had, so we didn’t use it. It’s overall a good system they have there and we saw families, couples, young and old so it’s a good place for pretty much everyone. In terms of the location with regards to the lifts, it’s not the absolute best but there’s a bus stop right outside that takes you to the high street where the main lifts go from. It is within walking distance of the town and if you’re able, walking in is arguably faster (as you don’t have to wait around for a bus) and takes about 12-15 minutes.
