Overview: hotel description: Aktiv & Spa Hotel Alpenrose, Schruns description

Get a true taste of Austrian hospitality at the Alpenrose, a family-run stay in the Schruns area of the Montafon valley. The ski school, lifts and nursery slopes are all around a 5-minute walk away. And you can hop on the free ski bus that stops outside if you fancy exploring further afield.

The hotel itself has that classic mountain feel. We’re talking staff clad in traditional dress, a snug lounge with a proper open fire, and bedrooms decked out with furry throws and plenty of natural wood.

Nothing beats a bit of R&R after a session on the slopes, and the spa here is a real highlight – it’s even fed by a natural mountain spring. Swim and sauna your way to post-piste zen, or go the whole hog and splash out on a luxurious treatment. Later, you can swing by the bar for drinks and live music. Then round things off with four courses of top-notch local cooking in the dining room. Lots of the herbs and vegetables come from the hotel garden, and with an expert wine waiter on hand, you’ll always have a glass of something special to go with your meal.

The ski area is made up of the Silvretta Nova, Hochjoch, Schafberg, Golm and Grabs peaks. Beginners are well catered for, with ski schools and nursery slopes in every area. The Kristberg region is a jewel in terms of its uncrowded learner runs and Schafberg has nursery slopes at the back of the village as well as blues all over the mountain. The red piste 1 is a scenic descent from the summit of the Schafbergbahn, passing through the trees, down to Gargellen. Hochjoch has two main ski areas: Kapellalpe and...

In each of the villages, there are a number of umbrella bars and après ski venues to keep the party going. Particular favorites are t...
