Newcastle ski holidays
Newcastle International Airport (NCL) is in Woolsington, six miles north-west of the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne. With direct flights to over seventy destinations, it’s the biggest airport in the North East.
Sunderland, Durham and Darlington are within an hour’s drive away and you can reach the airport from Carlisle, Edinburgh, Leeds and York within a couple of hours.
Driving to Newcastle Airport:

Driving from the north: From the A69 towards Hexham and Newcastle, join the A1 towards Morpeth and then leave at junction 77, turning left at the roundabout onto the A696, which takes you directly to the airport.
From the A68, follow the road towards Jedburgh and Newcastle and continue as it links onto the A696, then follow signs to the airport.
Driving from the south: Continue along the A1 northbound, leave at junction 77 and at the roundabout, take the first exit for the A696 and then follow signs for Newcastle Airport.
Driving from the west: From the A69, join the A1 and then leave at junction 77. Take the left turning for the A696, and follow the airport signs.
Parking at Newcastle Airport:
There are several different options for parking at Newcastle Airport - all within walking distance of the terminal.
The Short Stay car park is opposite the terminal, for a few hours or weekend ski break (for around £20/24 hours).
The Medium Stay car park is to the left as you drive into the airport, the first 15 minutes of parking is free, which is ideal for dropping off travellers and a 24 hour stay costs around £20.
The Long Stay car park is behind the Medium Stay, with a 24 hour shuttle providing access to and from the terminal. When this was written, a 7 day stay cost around £77, but this can be significantly discounted to around £40 if parking is booked in advance online.
Meet and Greet allows you to leave your car right outside the terminal, and unload your car for one of the stewards to take care of the parking.
The Express car park is the first you drive past. Right outside the terminal, this is designed for quick drops and pickups. Prices last time we checked were £1 for under 10 minutes and £6/hour.
Public Transport to/from Newcastle Airport:
Newcastle Airport Buses:
There are several regular bus routes from the airport. The X77, X78 and X79 run to Newcastle and Ponteland Monday-Saturday. The 353 service towards Kingston Park and Killingworth also runs Monday-Saturday. The 74 connects to towns east of the airport including Hexham, and Matfen.
Trains to/from Newcastle Airport:
Newcastle Airport has its own train station. The Tyne and Wear Metro light rail stops at 60 stations including Newcastle International Airport, Newcastle Central, Gateshead and Sunderland. Use the Metro service to connect to the North East rail Network: Newcastle Central Station is under half an hour away from the airport via the Metro, and has regular trains to various destinations, including York, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and Kings Cross.
Taxis to/from Newcastle Airport:
Airport Taxis serve Newcastle Airport; they have a booking desk in the arrivals concourse, as well as taxis in the taxi rank directly in front of the terminal.
Coaches to/from Newcastle Airport:
National Express run coaches from a number of British towns to Newcastle Upon Tyne Coach Station. From there, it’s about a 10 minute walk to Central Station for the 25 minute Metro connection to the airport, or a taxi takes about 20-30 minutes.

There is an Aspire Lounge and an AspirePlus Lounge. Both have a wide selection of snacks and drinks with food for breakfast and lunch. Guests also have Wi-Fi access and charging ports.
Food and Drink:
There are several options for food and drink within the terminal - from Starbucks and Caffe Ritazza for drinks and snacks, to Burger King and Greggs for fast food and bakery goods. For a sit down meal you’ll also find The Beer House and Flying Hippo.
Shopping:
There is a wide choice of shops for your holiday shopping needs, including Boots, Dixon Travel, Accesorize and WH Smith as well as World Duty Free. For holiday money, you’ll find a Travelex in the main concourse.
Wi-Fi:
There is usually 45 minutes of free Wi-Fi access throughout the terminal.
