Self catering skiing chalets
A winning combination of old school chalet chic and bargain-basement prices, a room-only package is a ticket to the classic ski experience for a little less lolly - useful when trying to afford skiing resorts among the alpine elite.
Choose precisely your preferred food and ski for less by cooking yourself, or ignore the “self-catered” label altogether and use your chalet as a base to discover why ski resorts are on so many gourmet-travel bucket lists.
What's included in a room-only chalet package?
Relatively self-explanatory, these holidays usually include living quarters and end of week cleaning service, without the usual chalet board. Flights and transfers can be included, or swapped for self-drive with channel tunnel or ferry tickets often included to maximise your saving (especially as this lets you cram your boot to bursting with cheap groceries from home). Ask our experts to find out what you can save.
You’ll find some chalets on a "B&B" basis, providing you with a skiers breakfast, while the slightly ambiguous "catering board ski chalet” can mean either of the above, so be sure to ask us when you book.
Are self-catered chalets the cheapest way to ski?
We all love to save and, with self-catered properties multiplying, your options are quite diverse. Quite a few of our chalets once restricted to fully catered packages can also now be procured without hosts or food - offering the same fantastic mountain chalet vibe for a little less.
If price is top priority (and you have luggage space) bringing food from home can help you keep on top of the cost – whether that’s packing everything you’ll need bar fresh milk and bread, bringing some frozen, pre-cooked suppers to save cooking time in your chalet or just taking a small selection to get you started. The other option is stopping at a hypermarket before you reach resort, which will have greater choice and lower prices. Keep one eye on our last minute chalet deals for a bargain, especially if you’re happy to ski anywhere.
