Cervinia Resort

Nestled in the heart of the rocky, North-West Alps, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to an Italian version of Narnia as you reach the end of the snow-topped pines and arrive at the foot of the holiday village. Airport transfers direct to your door from either of Italy’s Turin or Milan airports and Geneva means you won’t find yourself lugging your skis and boots in tow as you seek out your accommodation. The resort’s nearest train station can be found at Châtillon Saint-Vincent, 28km from the resort, and has a good bus and taxi connection between the two.

This Northern mountain village is traffic-free, meaning you’re at ease to stroll amongst the characteristic streets of mismatched modern apartments and traditional Alpine chalets, enjoying an array of hearty restaurants, bars, supermarkets and boutiques. For local produce, try La Maison des Gourmands for great Aosta Valley cheeses like Fontina and Fromadzo. If you’re not in the mood to shop on a day off from skiing, there’s a fantastic range of snow activities including air boarding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.

This little firecracker of a village- mostly peaceful from Monday to Friday - crackles and comes to life at the weekend as the Italians ascend for a spot of weekend skiing themselves.

A top resort for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, with green and blue runs tailored to nervous beginners; varying difficulties of reds for intermediates and black pistes with plenty of off-piste opportunity for experts. A standard 6-day ski pass is the Breuil-Cervinia Valtourneche pass, with the possibility to extend to all of the Aosta Valley after 3 days. International weekly passes can be purchased to include Switzerland’s Zermatt, adding another 200km. Daily tariffs are available for all nearby resorts if you fancy a bit of mid-week travelling.

Skiing/BoardingSkiing in Cervinia

With first-track skiing for early risers who can beat everyone else to the slopes, Cervinia is a snowball of varied surprises. 18 beginner runs make this ideal for novice skiers wanting to embark on their romance with snow sports. Take the chair lift up to Plan Torrette to get a feel for the gentler blue runs. This is a great place for children to learn as ski schools take young skiers up magic carpets and around a whole new world of slopes.

A bucket load of intermediate runs means that already accomplished skiers can only find themselves getting better and better. You’ll find lots of wide and gentle blues and a few easy reds (such as red 24) that are perfect for developing the technique to transform those jagged zig-zags into stylish S-shaped turns. As the ski area links seamlessly with neighbouring Zermatt, those looking to cover some distance have a massive total of 350km to explore.

For extreme skiers, try the 7 black runs. Take the cable car up to the 3883m drop-off point for a tantalizing decent from glacier Matterhorn Paradise.

Head over to the huge, 9 acres Indianpark in the Plan Maison area to bust some moves on their various rails, jumps and boxes. Why not challenge a friend to a high-speed race on the slopes’ boarder-cross?

Kind slopes spell ideal for beginner and early intermediate snowboarders who can avoid having to unstrap too often as this resort only has a few button lifts.

For off-piste, do some heli-skiing or go above Plan Torrette, where moguls line the runway. Freeriding fanatics should think of adding a day lift pass to Zermatt if you haven’t experienced the Matterhorn yet – while you’re there, take the Plateau Rosa lifts and carve your way down the Theodul glacier.

Cervinia Apres Ski

Après ski, Après ski, Après ski! A popular spot to start the evening is at the Grivola’s Irish bar which has a happy hour after the lifts close. To extend your night, move the party on to the village’s happening Bianconiglio club, which offers a range of music including live performances to suit all clientele.

Few do food better than the Italians - Pizzas loved by locals and tourists alike can be found at the Sotto Zero, perfect for all the family with classic Margherita for the little ‘uns and Alpine topping twists for you. Spend a romantic, quiet night in at Lo Copo Pan sat in front of a cosy log fire after having enjoyed a traditionally Italian meal of antipasti and meat fondue: mamma mia! If you’re looking for a familiar meal of hamburgers and fries washed down with some British ale, head over to the Dragon Hotel’s Welsh pub for some small home comforts.

For those who prefer to wake up doe-eyed and fresh-faced in the morning to attack the extreme sporting day ahead, turn your attention to the Hermitage Hotel’s spa to soothe those aching muscles. Cervinia is not at a loss where creative and unique snow-inspired ideas are concerned. Why not try your hand at some of the winter activities including ice-karting; mountaineering; a guided hike to a frozen waterfall; snow dinghies; a ride on a snowmobile or snowbike; air-boarding (like wakeboarding, but on snow!); explore ice caves or try some good old-fashioned snowshoeing.

Cervinia ticked so many boxes for me. Skiing wise it’s a lot of fun – plenty of cruisy blues and reds to choose from, plus enjoyable and easily accessed off-piste for the great powder it can frequently get (and we received, thankfully!) Cervinia served our mixed-ability group well. The apres was surprisingly ... + more

Really liked Cervinia, but the two and a half hour transfer would put me off returning. We didn’t venture into town much as the all-inclusive Club Med had all the entertainment we needed, but the skiing was nice. Some days the weather was fantastic, other days it was foggy and bottom runs were getting a bit sl... + more

Cervinia’s really nice and we’re already looking to go back. The slopes were ideal for us as beginners to skiing, and the whole place is really pretty with the most amazing views. It was only a bit of a downer that we didn’t have any fresh snow on Christmas week, but we still had a fantastic time. + more

Great views of the Matterhorn, snow-sure, great food and a better price but still allowing you to ski the Zermatt area. Buying the joint Cervinia&Zermatt pass costs a hundred pounds less if you buy it in Cervinia than it does if you buy it in Zermatt (it did in 2013 anyway). Nice intermediate slopes, a real ple... + more

Cervinia is a great place for beginners and intermediates as the runs are like motorways, very wide and not too taxing. If you’re a good intermediate there are other runs, I wouldn’t say it’s an advanced resort but there are a couple of black runs if you want them. We had a carving clinic one day that was pr... + more

We’ve been to Cervinia before, it’s very nice. It’s stunning there, beautiful scenery. People think that the Cervinia ski area is quite small, but you can ski over to Zermatt which makes it larger than you think. Our teenagers wanted a snowpark – that was the only thing that was missing. The skiing is good ... + more

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. The skiing was fine, we had a couple of glorious days and then quite a few snowy ones with bad visibility. We didn’t do much challenging terrain because of the weather. I’d say the resort is best suited to beginners to high intermediate level skiers. Cervinia itself is a ... + more

Cervinia is a nice small resort – it’s quite basic but this was my first time skiing and it’s a good place for beginners with quite a few blue runs. There isn’t loads of nightlife and this is something that would make us rate it higher. + more

I’d been walking in Cervinia in the summertime and always wanted to go back in the winter, and it definitely lived up to my expectations – it’s pretty unbeatable. It has a brilliant ski area with a link over to Zermatt if you pay for the full pass (although 2 out of 6 days I couldn’t get across because of... + more

The skiing is good fun, I’m an easy blue skier and there was plenty for me. My friend’s son skied over into Zermatt but I stayed in the Cervinia area. For après, we really liked Lino’s bar. It’s a traditional place that’s all been done up recently with open glass. If you go between 4 and 6 the drinks ar... + more

We have skied in Cervinia a few times before and will be going back again. The resort is great for beginners / intermediates, could possibly be a little bit boring if you're an expert but you can always go over the other side to Zermatt, where it’s prettier and narrower. Families in Cervinia

Cervinia is a great resort for families with young children and teens. The mini inflatables snow-park will avoid tiny tots feeling disappointed that they're too small to ski in this terrific play area. The mini club and beginner's area equipped with magic carpet are perfect for older children as their skills improve day by day, and it's reassuring for mums and dads to know they're in a safe place, having a ball. Those experienced enough can hit the resort's two snow parks for jumps, pipes and slalom.

Christmas markets, festivals and ski schools mean there'll be something going on for the whole family during school holidays, whether you decide to visit Cervinia at Christmas, New Year, Half-Term or Easter. Family apartments mean meal times can be just like at home, but that might not appeal to the chef, so we recommend a hotel for a successful family ski holiday in Cervinia! Hotel family rooms offer ample excitement for children with the opportunity for a king-size sleepover. Call us to find out about our hotels' childcare programmes and the best deals for you and your family.

GroupsGroup Holidays Cervinia

Cervinia’s snow-sure ski area is ideal for groups coming from different abilities. Its enormous range of blues and easy reds are perfectly suited for beginners and early intermediates. Breuil Cervinia Valtournenche has several black runs for the brave-hearted with good off-piste opportunities, snowparks and the opportunity to head to beautiful Zermatt for the day.

If some in your group like a “bit of social” on their ski holiday, places like the Yeti Bar and Welsh Dragon’s Bar provide a relatively calm location for an aperitif, but that’s really only the start of a night out in Cervinia. After a few quiet drinks turn into the need for a night on the town dancing, the above mentioned sole Bianconiglio club hosts the cheesiest of nights typical of European discotheques – highly recommended!

Hotels like the Breuil are just marvellous for groups, as you meet for dinner and drinks in the bar after having washed and warmed in the personal space of your own room. Continue the evening communally downstairs if you have the energy, or head back up to your room if you’re too knackered to string 2 words together. Extra friends can choose to join the holiday post-booking with a hotel if more rooms are available, making a very flexible group holiday. SNO’s group discounts and deals are not to miss, so browse the options below or call our specialists with your requirements.
